Fully aware of Hunter's head peeking out of the living room curtains as he watched Josh and I bicker back and forth which we'd been doing for the past 5 minutes now. He was full on yelling while I tried my hardest to stay calm and collected. Claiming I'd led him on and I left him for Hunter which I found childish because we weren't close enough to even consider each other as good friends, let alone date.
I thought that maybe he was a bit high or he'd had too much to drink considering the glossy look in his eyes and how they were getting darker the more upset he got. Whatever it was, it caused his words to slur and jumble up like his tongue had been shoved in a blender set on high.
I hadnt notice he was getting closer by the seconds, staggering forward with his fingers clenched at his sides. Until we were close enough to feel the heat radiating off of one another and he was towering above me clenching and unclenching his fists in a rhythm like motion.
"Josh, you just need to just calm down and take a seat." I told him, trying to calm him down.
"No you calm down! Everyone says I need to calm down! Well I dont want to calm down dammit!" I heard the click of the door signaling Hunter had come outside.
"Whats going on?" Hunter stepped between Josh and I. It seemed to only make Josh angrier so he swung and Hunter reluctantly ducked, Josh's fist connecting with my cheek.
"Shit." I mumbled, holding my cheek. I could taste the blood on my tongue from the blow and the burning of my cheek signifying that maybe I'd broken something. In a matter of seconds Hunter and Josh were both throwing punches at one another, Hunter gaining on Josh by the mere minutes.
I walked swiftly to the front door and quietly opened it, stepping inside. I felt tears rush to my cheeks from the stinging pain in my jaw. I got an ice pack from the fridge and put it on my jaw, wincing as the coldness met the hot skin. I took a seat on the cold floor because I felt a little light-headed. The metallic taste of blood burned my tongue causing me to cough, red liquid spewing to the floor boards.
What's wrong with me?
I asked myself, placing my head in my hands trying to ease the dizziness and now the pounding of my head as it hammered against my skull. I heard the door swing open but I didnt have enough energy to look up. Weak, my eyes began fluttering close and I mentally groaned as I felt myself being lifted from the ground. All I knew was that I was in someone's arms and they were running. I felt the cool leather seat of a car, a hand on my shoulder telling me to Wake up and stay with them. I tried fighting but my eyes felt like they weighed a ton and I just gave up, slipping into darkness.

I woke up hours later, the strong scent of antiseptic and sterilizers making my nostrils burn. My jaw hurt like hell as did my head. There was a white light shining above me, making my eyes squint into little slits and my vision blur. I noticed someone holding my hand, looking down I saw a head full of black hair sprawled out on the sheets next to me; Hunter.
I managed to smile, reaching out to run my fingers through his dark locks. Starting at the nape of his neck and combing my fingers to his messy quiff in the front long overdue of a haircut.
He shifted, lifting his head and smiling at me, "You're awake."
I nodded, turning on my side despite the cords running through my arms. I stared at Hunter's face; dark circles, blood shot eyes, messy hair but somehow still managing to look like a Greek God. I touched his strong cheek, watching as he melted into my palm. Eyes closed, long eyelashes brushing his cheeks, "Are you tired?" I mumbled.
"Yes." He mewled, voice so deep and hoarse.
"Come here." I scooted just enough so that there was empty space beside me, patting the cool sheets. He kicked off his shoes, scrabbling into the hospital bed and placing his head on my chest. I stroked his hair, soft snores escaping his parted lips. This was the first night I had held him and to be honest it felt like the best thing in the world, being the chest that he wanted to lay on when he needed to.
