The car ride to school is silent except for the soft hum of the radio blaring through the speakers. I hear Hunter tapping along to the beat of the song at a steady rhythm, fingers clenching the wheel as we pause at a red light.

Im alone with my jumbled thoughts, wondering if Hunter regret telling me what he told me last night. I mean, he hasn't said any words to me this morning besides goodmorning. Is that bad?

Maybe he's in one of his monthly moods, I told myself. Guys have a certain time in the month where there hormone levels are higher than normal, right? Maybe that's what's going on.

We pull up to the school premises and Hunter doesn't let me out. I reach for the door handle instead, small fingers clutching the cold metal until the door swings open and my sandals meet the black tarmac. There's this burning in the core of my stomach as Hunter continues to walk ahead, my tiny legs running to catch up with Hunter's long strides.

"Hunter!" I shout and he glances at me over his shoulder. He flicks his head to the left, gesturing for me to come forward as he sticks out his hand. My legs carry me to his hand and I grasp the warm rough skin.

We enter the school doors and Hunter leans down to place a kiss to my forehead when I grip his wrist and took him into an empty classroom. "Tell me whats wrong." I say, shutting the door and pulling down the blinds, I click the lock so we wouldn't get caught.

My arms are crossed over my chest as I stare at Hunter, foot tapping impatiently on linoleum tiles. "What do you mean? Austyn, nothing's wrong with me." His vibrant blue eyes shine from the sun peeking through the curtains.

"Oh really, Hunter?" I take a few steps forward, "You haven't spoken two words to me this morning!" I shout.

A few more obscenities were released between us until I finally settle on just giving up. Leaving Hunter be. I knew with his obstinate and obdurate attitude I wouldn't be able to get a word from him. So I decided that it was better to remove myself from the situation, scooping up my bag from the cold tiles and unlocking the door, "Letme know when we're on speaking terms again." I slid out, slamming it shut behind me.

Upon entering math 5 minutes late, I took  my habitual seat by Jace and pulled out my notebook, scribbling down a few notes before I submerged into my desk. I pulled out my earphones and stuck a bud in my ear, immersing out the buzz of my teacher's boring words and focusing on the lyrics being absorbed through my ear.

It was soon p.e. and I scuttled to the locker room, changing into my shirt and shorts before promenading up the bleachers and taking a seat. The soft hum of music drifted from the earbud speakers and into my eardrum as I contemplated Hunter.

He bounced the orange ball between his long fingers and rose off his feet to dunk, the net swooshing with the weight of the tossed  basketball. I watched as Hunter rid himself of the wet fabric clinging to his chest and tossed it across the court. He shook out his black hair, sending splatters of sweat all over the shiny floor. He knew I was observing closely when he gyrated on his heels and connected our eyes, he bid me a half smile before grabbing hold of the basketball and tossing it into the white net again.

***********

I kicked at the pebbles along side the road as I made my route home. I'd insisted that I'd walk myself home considering Hunter and I weren't on speaking terms at the moment.

My earbuds were in my ear as the heavy bass drifted through my eardrum until a black Range Rover pulled up beside me. Knowing exactly who it was I continued walking not looking back. With each step I took Hunter pressed the gas pedal.

"Austyn?" I ignored him, kicking the rocks underneath my feet as I lingered away inch by inch.

"Austyn. Come on. Get in the car, let's talk."
