Chapter Two (Loki)
At first, I follow the two men but change course when they pass the stairwell. I race up the stairs, following the wailing screams I hear above me.
As I reach the next floor, I see the dark hallway is deserted. The corridor is a long one and has has hallways that go to the left and right. There is only a single door ahead of me, so I head toward it.
I pull against the handle but the door is locked. There is a keypad to the right of the door. I put my hand over it and use my powers to unlock it. I hear a click and slide the door open.
Once I am inside, the door automatically slides shut behind me. I take a look around me. This hallway is painted completely white, with blinding lights overhead. There are men and women in white coats all about, looking very concentrated upon their work.
No one sees me. I am still shrouded from their vision.
I hear a scream, weaker than the previous ones, but I can tell it still comes from the same source.
Formulating a plan in my head, I look for a closet. And I find that it is a good omen when I find one directly to my left. I slip inside and look around to see what precious goods it offers me. There is a rack with white coats identical to the others, each with a different name stitched on to them. I pick the one that says Dr. Banner on it, chuckling at the irony.
And then I finish my disguise.
When I walk out of this closet, I will still look like me, but dressed in a white coat, black trousers and shiny black shoes. My skin will have a slightly darker tone to it, so that I don't look nearly as pale. And my hair will be short, brown and curly. I make sure my eyes are dark brown as well.
I walk out, clip board in hand and put on the facade of an excited schoolboy visiting his dream job.
"Can I help you, sir?" it's worked. I smile and look and the young lady standing before me. Her hairy is dark and frizzy, pulled back from her face. She looks at me earnestly, as if she's been waiting her whole life to be a tour guide.
"Why yes." I smile slyly at her. "I was hoping you could show me around your wonderful facility and answer my questions." I hold her gaze.
But she looks away, blushing. "Most certainly. Although, I must tell you, this floor doesn't have nearly the amount of experiments as the one above us." She still won't look at me directly.
"Oh? And what is the difference?" I ask.
"Well, here we have our most valuable, important, and profitable experiment. I will admit that this is my favorite lab. But on the next floor, there is a larger variety of experiments and subjects."
"Are all the subjects human? Just out of curiosity..." I fain bashfulness.
"No, just this one."
"Well, then this is most certainly the floor I want then."
"Oh-- ok then. Let's start down this way." she turns and I follow.
I'm in.
