(Loki)
This guard's uniform is large and clunky. No wonder these guys can't fight. They can't move in these things. But I move on anyway, keeping one hand on the holster of my too-tight trousers.
"Hey!" I hear from behind me. I turn to see who dares stop me on my mission. A young man, wide-eyed and broad-shouldered jogs towards me.
"Hey, man. I haven't seen you around before. You new too? I was lost, but the guys next floor up told me where to go." He puts his hands on his hips and grins at me.
I internally roll my eyes. "Uh, yea. Thank goodness I ran into you. It's so easy to get lost in this place!" I throw my hands up for exaggeration.
"Your tellin' me man!" He laughs and holds out his hand. "I'm Jason. Jason Macner."
I take his hand. "Christopher Morgan." I lift my lips in a quick grin.
"Ha, nice to meet ya man. Hey listen! I was just on my way to do some patrol stuff. Wanna come with. First day and all. I could use the extra pair of eyes."
"Patrol? What are you patrolling?" I ask.
"Oh, you know that experiment they have locked up in the basement? I'm told it's a huge monster or something. But that's between me and you, ok? They told me I wasn't supposed to tell anyone about it." He winks at me. Annoying little imbecile.
Then I realize. The girl.
"Sure! I was actually supposed to head that way. I had no idea it was in the basement!" I slap myself on the forehead.
He laughs. "Sweet man! Let's go!" He waves his hand for me to follow.
As soon as we are in the elevator, Macner starts babbling about something. I tune him out to avoid killing him.
The elevator stops at the 8th floor to let a couple of men in lab coats on. They nod at us and then continue their conversation.
"Have you seen the files, the tapes?" One says. He's short and balding, with a pathetic attempt at a comb-over.
"No, but I know that they are starting to make everyone watch them. To let us know what our agents are going to turn into, what they can do." The other, taller, more hairy one says.
"Right. Gosh. The powers that girl had. She was nearly invincible. If she hadn't gone bat-shit crazy and killed those people, I'm sure she would have been recuited for the Avengers. They keep adding people you know?' He chuckles. "Earth would have really been safe with her on board."
"But like you said, she went crazy. But lucky for us I guess." They both break out laughing.
The elevator stops at the basement and we all get off. Macner stops me. He gestures towards the two men walking ahead from us.
"What the hell were they talking about man?" His eyes are impossibly wide.
"No idea." And I walk away.
"Hey man! Where are you going?" he yells.
"I know where I'm at now! I'll catch up with you later!" I say without turning around.
And I follow the doctors, once again changing my face.
*****
"Dr. Anderson!" The two doctors look at me nervously, having no idea I'm not really Mr. Huge Pores.
"Gentlemen, if you don't mind, I wanted to take another look at the test subject's files. Oh and the tapes too. Could you go get them for me?" I smile at them, raising my eyebrows.
"Of course, sir! Just a moment." And they both scuttle off to get what I demand.
Minutes later I am sitting in a room by myself, as myself, looking through files and history and bloodwork of a 19 year old girl by the name of Anna Williams. And a beautiful girl at that.
She's of average height, but slender. At first glance, you would think she is frail, but she holds herself in a way that gives her a certain strength.
Her history isn't very complete. And there are plenty of videos from when she was first taken and experimented on. I can only watch a few of them before I have to turn them off, fighting the urge to kill every single insect that wears a lab coat.
But then there was one video that stood out. The day she was captured.
A small girl. 12 years old. And so much power. Raw power. Fire, and air and earth and wind swirl and fly about her, fighting off her attackers. She dodges hundreds of bullets and seems to float in the air. She fights back with all her heart. Throwing whatever she can at these people.
But there's one particular thing I notice about her, about Anna.
She's not crazy.
She's desparate.
And that's when Dr. Anderson walks in.
