I should have slept last night. That would have been the smart thing to do. For the first time, I could have had a good nights sleep. But I tossed and turned, thinking of all the possible reasons, mostly bad, why no one had been beating on my door, screaming obscenities at me, or threatening to beat me up.
It wasn't right.
And they weren't going to be kind towards me all of a sudden. That's just not how they operated.
I had had a sleepless night, trying in vain to hear something, anything. And at one point i thought I heard someone outside, but I can't be sure.
I was beginning to feel sleep take me over now. All my worrying had drowned me of my energy. My eyelids kept slipping down, no matter how hard I tried to keep them open.
And then I heard the elevator.
Breakfast was here. At least, I hoped.
