(Anna)
I watched as Jamie and Lake broke away from the group and came to join us, walking in obvious victory. "Looks like this isn't going to end well for you." Lake said.
"But it can, if you listen to us." Jamie.
Raymen was the only one who seemed worried. Old habits die hard, I suppose. "Someone's been watching us." He said mysteriously.
"Someone has been watching us from the beginning, Anna." Teagan said.
"Who?" I asked, frustrated, trying to keep the screams of the village people from my ears.
"We don't know. But they are much more powerful in this universe than any of us. They've watched our entire lives play out, have watched the events unfold." Lake.
"They've taken a particular interest in you, though."
I couldn't breath. This sudden turn of events was sending shivers up my spine. Loki stood beside me, his hands clenched.
I took heaving breaths trying to calm down. I was tired of people taking an interest in me. "Why me?"
"Don't know." Jamie said. "We just know that they've put their piece in the game, and now it's your turn to play."
"Quit speaking in riddles and spit it out already." Loki growled.
Teagan's mouth lifted up. "He's offering us a fresh start, this one. But there's one condition, one decision that must be made. And now it comes to you to make that choice."
"He's got his own way with magic. And it's far more powerful than your ridiculous demon mothers'." Jamie said, stretching out his neck. "He's put a spell on you." he sang deviously.
"What decision?"
"It's either us or him." Raymen pointed a shaky finger at Loki. "If we kill him, then we live. He, whoever he is, won't kill us. He'll put things back the way they are supposed to be, give us our lives back. Isn't that what you want, Anna? Because I know it's what I want." He was pleading, almost begging me now.
"And if we kill you?" Loki asked, taking the words out of my mouth, but not quite having the heart to speak them aloud.
"If you kill us, then he gets to live. Simple. It's either us or him." Teagan said, cracking his knuckles.
"What's the catch?" I asked. There had to be a catch. It was never that simple.
"Catch? No catch." Lake said, confused.
"Bullshit, and you know it. Making such a decision benefits this mystery being in no way whats so ever, other than satisfying his curiosity, seeing who I would choose. So. What's. The. Catch?" I spat out each word, furious now.
Teagan breathed in defeat. "The 'winners', per say, work for him."
"And anyone would want to do that, because?" Loki shot out.
"I don't know! It doesn't matter. Because if you don't choose, he will!"
That changed things.
"If you don't choose, he will, with no warning and no care. I don't want to die, Anna." Raymen begged.
"If he has to end up choosing, life will not bode well for you, Anna. We are trying to protect you."
"I don't need your protection." I snarled.
"Fine. So be it then."
I didn't have time to deflect him, before Lake turned into his ghostly formed and rushed at me, taking over my body.
