3 MONTHS LATER

I still didn't dare step into his room.

His death still felt like a fresh wound on my heart. It seemed that it would never heal.

So much had changed in the past few months.

Thor was here often, and said that we were not the only ones fighting a battle with Hydra. But that we had faired better than Midgard did. Hydra had taken over SHIELD, who had never even known about my existence, much less what had happened to me. Steve Rogers had fought valiently, but was not able to stop the destruction. SHEILD was all but gone now.

So much had changed.

And I couldn't decide if it was for better or for worse.

***********

I walked briskley down the hall towards the physician's office. He had become a sort of therapist as well, making sure I was stable enough to govern a fragile kingdom that was rebuilding itself. I talked to Thor about my problems and the physician about my health. I dreaded every time I saw him, worried that he would throw in my face the fact that Loki and I should never have been told the truth, that it would have saved us. Saved him.

I guess there was no way of knowing.

I tapped lightly on his door, and before long he opened it and motioned for me to come inside. I did so and waited for him to join me. He walked around to face me. "And how are we today, your majesty?"

"I've been better."

"Oh, and what is different today?" He studied my face.

"I think it's safe to say I've gone into deeper of a depression."

"You do look rather ill. Have you been eating?"

"When my appetite arises."

"Do you mind if we do an examination? It is sometimes known that the body will start to shut down if it is in too much turmoil. I would like to make sure things are running they way that they should."

"Of course."

I climbed up on the lab table, moving my heavy skirts around. I waited patiently as he poked and proded and listened. I made sure to keep my eyes on his face, looking for any emotions, so that I would be sure that he wasn't lying to me if there was bad news and he told me there wasn't.

There.

A look passed over his face.

"What is it?" I asked softly.

"Well, I know what's wrong with you."

"Did my uterus shut down? Because, if it did, that would be glorious." I snickered.

"Ah, no, actually." He opened and closed his mouth, unable to decide on the words.

"What?!" I asked, frustrated.

"Your majesty, " He wrung his gloves in his hands. "You're with child."
