You still didn't understand any of this. The shadow world. The fact that Valentine was out to get you even though you were just a mundane. The fact that shadowhunters and demons and vampires and werewolves and all the rest were real. The fact that all the stories were true.

That's what Jace and Clary, the people who had save you from Valentine had first told you in ways of explanation, "All the stories are true, Y/N"

You paced across the room, wringing your hands around your wrists nervously. You'd been in this room for almost 12 hours and no one had come to you yet. Clary had brought you, told you to make yourself comfortable as you were going to be staying there a while.

She wasn't lying.

You sat on the bed, exhaling loudly before flopping back onto it as you tried to allow your brain to catch up with the past half a week's events.

You had been so normal, just leaving a friends house, minding your own business, walking home and then...all of a sudden you were surrounded by demons who couldn't be real and men with long swords who you shouldn't be near and impossible heroes who shouldn't exist because life is not a fairytale...

Except that now, for you, it was. And not the good kind of fairytale.

The sound of the door opening interrupts your thoughts and you shoot up from the bed to a sitting position.

You studied the black hair, the broad shoulders, the incredibly tall height. Alec.

He had been in the group that had saved you from those demons and the men with the long swords, who they called circle members, and from what you recall, and honestly it's amazing you can recall anything, he was certainly not the most...sympathetic person to your situation

"What are you looking at?" Alec snaps at you and you shake your head, unaware you even had been staring at him

"You" you answer truthfully

"Why?" he frowns

"Because you entered the room" you enunciate, rolling your eyes, "It's a very typical human reaction to look at a person as they unexpectedly enter a room"

Alec ignored you, rolling his own eyes as he closes the door and stands just to the side of it, as if he's guarding it.

Or keeping you from getting out

"Ahem" you cough. Alec looks at you, bored. You raise your eyebrows in question, why is he still here?

"And you're still here because...?" you trail off

"Because I'm being forced to guard you" Alec sighs, leaning against the wall. You stare at his strong arms as he crosses them over his chest, admiring the muscles and the intricate tattoos that cover them

"Again?" he barks at you and your gaze snaps to his eyes, "What is with mundanes and why do you people always stare?"

"It must be the human nature to stare at something that's beautiful" you whisper, standing from the bed and moving to him

He stand upright, straightening from his slouched position against the wall protectively

"What are you doing?" he asks

"Admiring something beautiful" you reply, gingerly picking up his right arm and studying the tattoos. You use your fingers to trace the intricate shapes and symbols. You look at Alec as you do this, noticing that his eyes flutter lightly at your touch

"What are these?" you ask, continuing to trace the, what you assume to be, tattoos

"They're uhm" Alec coughs, "They're called runes. They're angelic markings that give us strength to do our job"
