*******
It had been a while since Izzy, Jace and Clary had set off for a mission. You were left behind of your own request, you were tired and you had to practice more rune work. Although, you weren't completely alone, Alec was still around somewhere, unable to go on mission as he was recovering from a recent demon wound.
As you roll over on your bed, book shutting closed, you reminisce on the first time you had ever seen Alec. He'd saved you from a demon in Pandemonium, where you were celebrating your sister's 18th Birthday. Ever since his rescue of you, however, he had barely spoken to you.
Usually he would hole up in the training room, his bedroom or the library, whether it be studying, training, reading or just sleeping, he did his very best to avoid you and you had no clue why.
You roll off your bed sluggishly, considering what you're options were. You were bored out of your mind but you couldn't train because no one willing was around to help you and, considering your new to the Institue, just like Clary, you were a useless Shadowhunter and, unlike your sister, the natural instincts of a Shadowhunter did not come to you easily.
You consider the library but decide against it, all you did these days was read, write and study and it was beyond dull. For a second, you ponder just going to the training room and training by yourself but ultimately decide not to, not only was it dangerous but Alec could be in there and the last thing you wanted was a run in with Mr Grouch himself.
You had to admit, you thought Alec was incredibly attractive and form everything you'd seen and been told by Izzy and Jace, he was intriguing to you but his stone cold, harsh attitude didn't make it easy for you to get to know him. Frankly, it made it impossible. He would always avoid your eyes, never speaking to you directly and so, eventually, you gave up and settled for ignoring him as he did you.
Deciding, after all, that you were hungry, you turn back around and head towards the kitchens to make something to eat, passing the beautifully ornate stained glass windows, glinting int he light and throwing rainbows over the stone walls. You admire them fondly, art had always intrigued you, so did colours and paints. Whilst Clary was more a drawer, you were a painter.
You didn't know why but something about taking two or three or more colours and mixing them together to create different colours and shades and palettes was calming and fascinating, it wasn't just like being brought into a new world, it was also like creating your own.
As you progress down the corridors, you hear the faint whooshing sound of a blade slicing through the air, coupled with soft grunts of concentration. Curiosity getting the better of you, you follow the sounds to one of the training rooms, a smaller one, more secluded and private.
It was here that you found Alec, practising with a seraph blade, slicing and dicing the air in front of him and turning in different angles, almost like sparring with a ghost. It was compelling to watch, the way his focus was so laser-like, his concentration perfectly pin-pointed.
You hesitate before turning the corner away from the training room and towards the kitchen, wondering whether or not it would be a good idea to try and talk to him, when he was secluded and alone, maybe he would open up?
Deciding against it, you turn to walk away but hear a timid grunt of pain that prompts you to turn back around. Alec had stopped training, the seraph blade dropped to his side whilst his free hand lifted the hem of his shirt up, revealing a blood-spotted bandage covering his lover abdomen, close to his parabatai rune. The demon wound he was supposed to be recovering from.
