"UGH!" you scream, plowing your fist towards Izzy's side, narrowly missing before turning on your heel and swinging your leg underneath her ankles, knocking her to her back. You quickly place your foot by her neck and let out a large exhale, brushing your unruly hair back from your face

"Woah" Izzy grunts, accepting your hand to pull her from the ground, "What's up with you today?"

Oh, nothing, your brother's just getting married to Lydia Branwell to help your family, which is great, except for the fact he has no idea that I'm in love with him

"Nothing" you lie, snatching your water bottle from the floor, "Just...one of those days I guess"

"Y/N..." Izzy reasons, her eyebrow raised as she questions your comment, "You're my parabatai and I know you more than anyone...what's wrong?"

You sigh, taking a sip from your water bottle before sitting on a bench nearby, sighing...there was no harm in telling Izzy, right? It wasn't like telling her would change anything

"Ok...well..." you hum, hesitating before finally just getting it all out in a big rush, "You know that little crush I used to have on your brother?"

"Yeah...?"

"Well, it isn't that little and it's...kind of a current thing"

"Y/N!" Izzy gasps, "Why did you never tell me!"

"Because it wasn't going to change anything" I sigh

"Are you kidding?" Izzy scoffs, "Because what happened on you're 21st birthday was irrelevant?"

You roll your eyes. She's referring to you're 21st birthday when yourself and Alec had gotten caught in a game of drunk 7 minutes in heaven and, for you...it sounds cheesy, but it kind of was heaven.

But then Alec had never mentioned it, you then didn't speak about it and you moved on with your lives, dismissing it as a drunken mistake that the both of you regretted...even though that was the furthest thing from the truth

"We were drunk" you huff, "It didn't mean anything"

"To you, it did" Izzy urges, "And that's important. You need to tell him how you feel!"

"What?!" you splutter, "Izzy, he's engaged! He's getting married in less than a week!"

"So?" Izzy ridicules, "He's not in love with her!"

"Maybe not" you muse, knowing the real reason he was marrying Lydia, "But this wedding, to him, is more important than love, it's about family honour, his career, he's doing this for the Lightwood name and that's more important than me and my feelings"

"You know, Y/N, that's really noble of you and all...but our last names shouldn't be more important than who we love" Izzy replies sombrely

"For Alec, it is" you repeat, "And if I truly love him in any way, I can't get in the way of that"

"What's up, spaz?" Jace calls into your room and you roll onto your stomach to face him, smirking in the doorway

"Spaz?" you scoff, "Oh, how creative. Nice one, big brother, seriously"

"Don't worry, I'll find more"

You didn't doubt it. Your big brother, Jace, was unbearably annoying, but he was family and you loved him. Yourself, Jace, Alec and Izzy had been inseparable ever since the Lightwood's had taken you both in after your parents had died and from that friendship, you had parabatai'd with Izzy, and Jace, Alec.

You were all a family.

"So..." Jace leads, looking at you pointedly

"Oh, God" you groan, recognising the look, "Izzy told you!"
