Chapter 33

Annabeth's POV:

Soon we cross the wide river and begin walking again. Not much talking is done, were all on edge not sure what to expect.

"Halt!" A voice shouts from no where. We all look around but don't see the owner of the voice. Suddenly POP! A small figure appears in our way. It looks kinda like a troll.

"Who are you?" Hermione asks it.

"I am Hecate's logic troll, answer my puzzle and I shall let you go." It answers. "Only one of you may participate in answering this puzzle."

"I'll do it." I say stepping forward at the same time Hermione does.

"Rock paper scissors?" I ask and she nods.

"Ok. one two three!" Leo shouts excitedly. I hold out paper while Hermione has rock. "Ooh Paper beats rock, tough loss Hermione." Leo says in an announcer voice. I roll my eyes and step toward the troll.

"To pass daughter of Athena answer me this; There are twin brothers; one which always tells the truth and one which always lies, What single yes or no question could you ask to either brother to figure out which brother is which?" The troll asks me smiling mischiviously.

Immediantly my brain goes into over time. The key to this logic problem is to find a question that the two brothers would answer differenly, and that difference would therefor identify the two from eachother.

Would your brother say that you tell the truth? This is the only question that comes to mind. It gets straight to the point. The lying brother would answer "Yes". The truthful brother would answer "No".

"Come on Annaebeth you're supposed to be smart your mother being who she is." The troll sings happily trying to distract me. I smile and answer.

"The question I would ask the brothers is "Would your brother say that you tell the truth?" The trolls smile faulters at my answer. "The lying brother would say yes and the truthful brother would say no."

"Very good, you may pass this time demigods." The troll steps off the path and the ground opens up. A staircase leads down into the Earth. The reminds me of the laybrinth and searching for The Athena Parthenos. We seem to have bad luck with underground. Despite this with a glance to others I lead us down the stairs into the darkness.

Hazel's POV:

At the bottom of the stairs Hermione says a spell that provides us with light and then we walk for about five minutes before we get to a locked door with a card attached to it. I grap the card and read the neat script.

"Beyond this door is what you're looking for, to get passed once you must figure out on your own, on the way back it'll be easier than the first, but be careful not to lose the gold."

"What does that mean?" Ron asks confused.

"Well, beyond this door is what you're looking for? Maybe Hecate?" Ginny says. I nod, maybe she's right.

"Ok well, so the doors locked and we have to find a way to get passed it without the key, whatever is on the other side is what we're looking for. When we come back we should be able to get back through easier probably with whatever the gold thing is." Hermione sums it up.

"Ok so lets think, how can we open the door without the key?" Piper asks looking around the room.

I do the same. It's dark and cold down here. The ceiling, floor, and walls are made of dirt and the door is wood. I eximine the key hole thoughtfully.

"If we don't have a key we'll have to pick the lock." I think outloud. I close my eyes and search the Earth for any metal near by but come up empty handed. "Nothing beneath us can help."

"Does anyone have any ideas?" Percy asks.

Harry steps toward the door and points his wand at the lock. "Alohamora." He says and then tries to open the door but it doesn't budge. "So magic doesnt work on it."

"Get out of the way." Franks says pulling out his bow and aiming an arrow at the lock. He closes one eye and releases the arrow. It flies dirrectly into the key hole and the door creakes open.

"Well that's one way to do it." I say smiling at Frank. He shrugs and holds my hand as we go through the door for the next part of this adventure.
