Friends Forever?

Chapter 7

5 years later

It's been 5 years since I moved in with Killian. I'm 23 and I've been working at the state's fashion institute. I have become a fashion designer and I'm editor in chief of our institute's magazine. Life has been great I mean Killian and I are still living together and he's actually become co-director of our states FBI division. We've made lots of new friends and Killian has a girlfriend now.

I mean he's almost 27, he was actually lagging it so I'm happy he has someone he loves in his life. Tonight he's actually inviting her and other friends over for dinner because he is going to ask her to marry him. I haven't met her yet but I was surprised when he told me about it.

I mean he did mention a girlfriend but he never ever talked about her, he told me about her like 3 years ago. I know I shouldn't be acting so weird about all this and it's not that I'm jealous or anything. I mean I was actually talking to someone when I was 22 and Killian was acting the same way as I'm acting but I just don't know.

"Ready for tonight?" Killian asks as we are upstairs getting ready. "Yes I am," I say as I come out of my room. I'm wearing a black dress and had curled my hair and put it to the side. I walk over to his room and I see him walking out of the closet trying to fix his tie. "Emma can you help me..." and he looks up and he smiles. "Wow, Emma you look amazing." I blush. "Thank you and you look handsome but I think you need to fix your..." I say and he smiles, "yeah."

I go and fix his tie and he looks down at me and smiles. "Thank you for helping me with the food for tonight's dinner, and preparing I know you had a cocktail social to go to." I smile. "It's ok, if this is important to you then it's important to me." He smiles and hugs me. I hear the door bell ring and we let go. "I'm not ready," he says and runs into the bathroom. I laughed, "I'll go and greet her." "Thanks," I over hear him say.

I grab my heels and make my way down stairs. I stood at the door and sighed. Well he seems happy I thought in my mind. Maybe this is what's best for him. I put my heels on and I open the door. "Hi Milah." She looks at me from head to toe and nods."  "Emma correct?" I smile, "guilty." She stays quiet. "Ok." I say in an awkward tone.

"Well come on in, would you care for a glass of wine or water?" She gives me a straight face and stays quiet. God what a weird woman and to think she's Killian's partner. "Where's Killian?" She asks as she looks around the living room. I smile. "Oh he's coming he was still getting ready, I had to help him with his tie..." she gives me a death glare and I stop talking.

"He's coming," I say nervously. "So you actually live here with him?" She asks and I start to panic. That's when I hear Killian walking down the stairs. "Love," he says to Milah, "you look rather amazing." And that's when the door bell rings. "Must be our other guests," I say and I run over and open the door. I opened the door and it was all of Killian's people, so they were people I didn't know. "Welcome," I say and they all smiled and walked right in.

I look outside and I see Ruby walking towards the door. I close the door and walk over to her. "Emma you look amazing." I smile, "as do you girl." She smiles. "Oh my God Ruby, thank you so much for coming over today because it will be a long night!" "Don't worry I'll be there for you girl." I hug her and she smiles. "So what did Killian say when you told him that you loved him?" I start to panic.

"What?" I stutter, "what are you talking about?" Ruby gives me a straight face. "You told me that you were going to tell him how you really feel about him?" I smile nervously, "he doesn't need to know today or ever, he's going to propose to her tonight and he will forever forget about me." She shakes her head. "You know that's crap Emma." I sigh. "Well ok girl if you say so." I nod. "Well let's go back inside the house." She nods.

We then walk right back in. I look at Ruby and she gives me a smile. Ruby is my partner at the institute and we are both fashion designers. She is my best friend other than Killian but I think after tonight everything will change. We walk to the backyard and I start to serve wine and other drinks. Ruby and I decided not to drink, we wanted to be aware of everything that goes on tonight..
