"Kellin," I choke out. I hear the brakes slam through the speaker of my phone."What's wrong, Anna? Did your mom get drunk again?" he asks, panicking.
"No, just... meet me outside of my house please," I barely get out.
I hang up and move slowly towards the door, tears pouring from my raw eyes.
I didnt know Mitch over long, but he was a great guy...
Almost like a brother I never had... God, I can't believe he's gone.I step outside when I hear Kellin's truck squeal into my drive. He notices me and walks quickly up to me. "Anna, baby, what is happening?"
Mitch, he's gone, my thoughts speak for me.
"M-Mitch. He," I start. Kellin grabs my face in my hand and looks me in my eyes.
"Mitch got into a c-car accident," I begin. "A-And he's d-dead, Kellin."
I see Kellin's heart break through his eyes. "Are you just messing with me, Anna?" he asks in denial.
I shake my head and he starts pacing while I hug myself. Tears still fall from my face, but not so many at once. My eyes are going to be dry soon.
"Kellin," I say. "Do you want a hug?" I ask child-like. Even though this is a depressing moment for us, I know Kellin and Kellin likes comfort even though he won't say it out loud.
"No," he says coldly. Tears fall down his face and he walks up to me. "Yes," he cries.
Kellin lays his head in the crook of my neck while I wrap my ams around him and rub his back. "I'm so sorry, Kellin," I say, trying to comfort him.
We stand like this for a while and Kellin says he needs to go be alone.
"I love you," I say. He continues to shut his truck door and pull out without a word.
KELLIN'S POV
I pull away, ignoring the fact that Anna said she loved me. That is not what I care about right now. I care about wanting to say goodbye to my dead best-friend. Tears fall from my eyes as I drive to Mitch's house.
I'm swerving in and out of lanes, but fuck it. I'd be better off with Mitch anyway. God, he can't be dead, my conscious cries.
Anna, she doesn't need me.
"Ow!" I cried. I was in my backyard and my leg was stuck in a thorn bush.
"Hey, dude, you alright?" I heard a voice say from over the tall, wooden fence.
"Help me!" I cried out to the voice.
A short boy with short dark hair began to jump over the fence.
"One time, I got stuck in a pointy bush," the boy explains. "It hurt really bad, dude," he says."What's your name?" I ask.
"I'm Mitch and I'm seven. What about you?" he asks me.
"I'm Kellin and I will be seven in April," I tell Mitch.
"Cool," he says while helping me to my feet. "Do you wanna be friends?" he asks.
"Yeah," I tell him. "Thanks," I say.
"Cool," he says.Every day after that, Mitch would come over after school, because it turned out we went to different schools. We'd play basketball or backyard football. Mitch was there for my first girlfriend and he was there for my freshman year. Then I started at Manor with Mitch. And then I met Anna...
Anna, she has to be in everything! I don't care that I love her right now, she isn't Mitch.
