****Yay for a double update this week! Haha. So, I'm like...obsessed with the song "I Know What I Know" by Shane Harper. It's perfect like omg :D Anyhayes, here is chapter 8! Enjoy, my lovely readers :)***
Sam's POV- 1 week later
Our break ends tomorrow. That means I either have to tell Meldoy the real reason why I'm always away, or I continue hiding it from her. Part of me wants to tell her the truth, but part of me wants to wait. I have a feeling if I tell her that I'm in a band with Hunter Hayes, and that we're heading back out on the road tomorrow, she'll want nothing to do with me anymore. But I can't keep hiding this from her forever, either.
None of the other guys know about Melody. Well, they know I went on a 'date' with a girl a few days ago, but they don't know it was Melody, and for some reason, I'm glad they didn't figure it out. Based on her reaction when Hunter's song came on the radio in Applebee's the other day, I should probably keep my mouth shut about him when I'm around her. I just don't know what she meant by 'she doesn't have anything against him, but she doesn't want anything to do with him.' That doesn't make sense to me.
As I sit on a stool in the 'kitchen' of the bus, Hunter walks in. "Hey, Sam. What's up?" he asks, getting himself a bottle of water from the refrigerator. I shrug my shoulders. "Not much. You?" I ask, as he sits next to me. He takes a sip of water. "Nothing, just excited to get back on the road for real tomorrow. Hey, what about that girl?" he asks, looking at me. "What about her?" I ask, curiously. "Does she know we're going back on tour?" he asks. "Nope. I don't know if I should tell her or not." I say, leaning forward in my seat.
He has a puzzled look on his face. "Well of course you should! Doesn't she know you're in a band?" he asks. I shake my head. "Yeah, but she doesn't know that I'm in a band with you." I reply. Hunter chuckles. "Let me guess...she's a fan?" he asks, taking another sip of his water. I laugh. "Hah, that's funny. She's far from being a fan, buddy." I say, patting him on the shoulder as I get up from my seat. "What do you mean?" he asks, watching me walk away. I turn away. "I've said too much, already." I reply, shrugging my shoulders.
Climbing into my bunk, I pull my phone out from my pocket and dial her number. My bunk is really the only place on the bus where I can have privacy. My finger hovers over the 'Call' button on the phone, uncertain. I might as well tell her, and get it over with. She doesn't have to know which band I'm in, but she deserves to know that I'm leaving for a few months. Hitting the 'Call' button, I wait patiently for her to answer.
"Hello?" she asks, picking up. "Hey, it's Sam. Are you busy?" I ask, hoping she has a minute. She laughs. "Sam, I love you, but I can't always be with-wait...did I just say that out loud?" she asks, embarrassment in her voice. I chuckle. Gotcha on that one. I think to myself. "Um, yeah. You did. Don't sweat it, because I think I love you, too." I say, smiling. "Okay, well, what did you want?" she asks, the usual sharpness back in her voice. "Well, um, you know that band I'm in?" I ask.
"Yeah, why?" she asks curiously. "We're uh, going on tour. Back on tour, actually." I say hesitantly, silently praying that she won't get angry. She goes silent for a moment. "Oh! Sam, that's great, I guess." she says, a hint of loneliness in her voice. "Yeah, that's why I never called you for a few weeks, we were on tour. Last week was our break week, and we won't have another break for a month or two." I explain. "Oh. Well maybe I could come to one of your shows sometime?" she asks.
"You said you didn't like Country music. You probably would hate our shows." I say. "I would just have to suck it up and be a big girl, then. Even though yes, you are correct. I absolutely hate Country music, or Country anything, for that matter." she says, with a small laugh. "I just don't think you'd be impressed with the band, is all." I say gently. "So you're saying you don't want me around? I see how it is, then." she says harshly. My eyes go wide. "No! No it's not that, it's just you hate Country music, so you obviously wouldn't like our shows, meaning it would be a waste of time for you to come visit. I never meant to sound rude." I explain.
"Whatever, I have to go. I'll see you when you get another break, I suppose?" she asks, clearly not buying what I had just told her. I sigh, knowing that this is gonna be hard for the both of us. "Yeah, I'll call you. Well, I uh...uh, I love you. Talk to you later." I say, not used to saying 'I love you' this early into a relationship. If this thing even is a relationship to begin with. I honestly don't know. "You know, love is a strong word." she says. "I know, but you just gotta trust me when I say it." I say, getting the vibe that she's probably been hurt emotionally by her past boyfriends. "I'll try. Good bye, Sam." she says. "Bye, Melody." and with that, I hung up.
Melody's POV
Did I really just say that I love him? I mean, I guess I do, but it just feels weird throwing that word around, especially when I didn't expect to say it out loud. I should really be more careful with my wording. His words kept playing in my head. 'You just gotta trust me when I say it.' That's the thing, I don't know if I can trust him with that word. I know he probably means well, but I still have that thought in the back of my mind that he might just be another heart break waiting to happen.
And the thing about the tour. I guess I'm happy that he's on tour, but I wonder why he waited to the last minute to tell me. Maybe he just forgot? No, you can't just forget about going on tour. I wonder why he seemed so worried when I offered to visit him on this tour. He's probably like all the other guys, afraid or humiliated to show their girl off to their friends. Should've seen that one coming.
Sam's POV
Climbing back out of my bunk, I sigh in relief. I'm glad she knows about the tour now, just one less thing to hide from her. But I'm not going to let her find out who I'm touring with just yet. I have a feeling that would cause drama. Hunter, who was watching TV, sees me walk in. "Did you tell her?" he asks, as I sit next to him. "Yeah." I reply. "And? Was she mad? Upset?" he asks. "She wasn't exactly mad, I guess she was just shocked." I say. "Ah. That's understandable. So, you never told me or the other guys who she is. What's her name? What's she like?" he asks curiously.
I tense up at his question. "She's uh, she's high maintenance. That's for sure." I say. He laughs. "Well most girls are, Sam." he comments. "No, this girl is like, way high maintenance. It's not even funny." I say. He just chuckles. "You never told me her name. What's her name?" he asks, wanting more information. "That," I start, getting up and getting an apple from the fridge. "is for me to know, and you not to find out." I reply.
Hunter's POV
Huh. For him to know and me not to find out. "Come on man, why you being so secretive about this girl?" I ask. "Just to mess with you." he replies, heading to the back of the bus to the music room. I just fake a laugh, letting him carry on his little game. I know there's a reason he isn't telling any of us about her, but I'm going to respect his love life and let him open up about her on his own time. I will say, I am rather curious as to why he won't say anything. Maybe he's afraid we'll tease him about her? I don't know.
For some reason, when he said that she was 'high maintenance', I couldn't help but think of that girl, Melody. You know, the one who got coffee with me then stormed off? The one who was forced to move here because of her bad attitude? Yeah. I remember that day in the coffee shop. Once you get past the whole 'mean girl' part of her, and you start talking to her, she's really not so bad. But if you say one thing she disagrees with, she'll leave you in the dust without a second glance.
Man, now that I think about her, I can't stop. She was pretty, no, beautiful. Well, underneath all ten pounds of her makeup, I'm sure she's beautiful. I'm positive Sam wouldn't date someone like her, though. He's too good for a girl who could break his heart just like that. She's too intimidating and powerful for him, too bossy. I trust his judgment when it comes to girls, so I'm not to worried about the girl herself, I just hope that Sam doesn't feel like he can't come to us about her, if things do take a turn for the worst with her.
That being said, I still want to know a little bit more about his mystery girl, whoever she is.
***So Hunter's onto Sam! What do yall think will happen? Hope you liked this chapter, I'll see you soon!***
