"So, you just put your pointer finger here, and your ring finger there," I explain, showing her what to do on my own guitar. We were sitting in my music room in my house, Melody with her guitar in her lap, me with my own guitar in mine. She tried to copy where my fingers were on the guitar, but couldn't quite get it. "Like this?" she asked, looking up at me. The guitar was huge compared to her.
I don't know why, but I found that quite adorable.
I set my guitar down on its stand, walking over to her. "Almost, it's like this," I corrected her, as I stood behind her, placing my arm around her to put her fingers on the right places. "It feels funny," she admitted, referring to the new chord she'd just mastered. "Yeah, I know," I replied, chuckling. "So," I start, taking my arm from around her shoulder. "Can you play the other chords I showed you?" I ask curiously, watching her fingers to see if she remembered. "I think," she answered, playing the first chord I'd showed her.
"Is this it?" she asks, looking around her shoulder at me. I walk out from behind her, so that I was standing in front of her. "Yep! You've got it," I applaud happily. She smiles, before looking back down at the guitar as she made the next chord. "That's it," I reassure her once I'd seen she'd done it the right way. She made the rest of the chords, all without a single flaw. "You got it! You know four new chords!" I exclaim, smiling at her. She clapped her hands together happily, her face lighting up like a child on Christmas day. She looked so cute when she was happy like this.
Yes, I just called her cute.
Yes, I think I'm starting to fall deeper in love with her.
"Now all you gotta do is learn the strumming pattern," I tell her, holding my own guitar in my lap once again to show her the right way to strum the chords. I played the chords slowly, demonstrating the correct strumming pattern. "Like this?" she asked, strumming something similar to what I'd shown her. "Not quite, you're close though! I'll play it again," I say, repeating the chords. She tried again, but still couldn't quite get it. "Here," I said, getting up. I set my guitar back onto its stand and walked behind her, putting my left arm around her's, practically holding her hand in mine as I played the chords the right way. I could smell her perfume since I was so close to her. It smelled like vanilla and berries, which I must admit, smelled really good on her.
"I think I got it," she said, when I let go of her hand. "Go for it," I tell her, still leaning over her shoulder, my hand hovering over her's in case I needed to correct her again. She played through the chords slowly, but she'd done them the right way. "Melody! You did it! You played it all the way through without messing up!" I exclaim, walking around to face her. I was smiling like crazy, I just know it. "I did?" she asked, a smile slowly forming on her lips. "Yes! Congrats!" I tell her happily, as she stood up, setting her guitar on an extra stand I had sitting in the corner. "Thank you for teaching me, I know it can be frustrating to work with me," she says, looking up at me. "It's not a problem, honestly. I enjoy a good challenge," I said with a quick wink. Before I could say anything else, she hugged me. It wasn't as hesitant as the first time she'd volantarily hugged me, but it was still a little hesitant.
