Hunter's POV- the next day

"Don't be silly, they'll love you!" I exclaim, intertwining my fingers with Melody's as we drove down the highway to meet everyone at the buses. We have a show in two days, and it's almost on the other side of the country. The sooner we're out of Nashville, the better. It's currently seven in the morning, and I can tell Melody is desparately trying to not fall asleep in the passenger seat. She sighs, staring out of the window. The sun was slowly rising, but it was still dark out. "They weren't too fond of me that night you, Sam, and I had that fight at your house, when the power went out. Remember that?" she asked, returning her gaze to me. I nod slightly, not wanting to think about that night. That was back when Melody and I weren't on the best terms. "That was the night you dropped that candle and accidentally cut your hand on a piece of glass," I answer, remembering how I had gone to get a first aid kit to clean up her hand. She grinned, a thin, tight lipped grin. "You fixed me," she gave my hand a squeeze. I knew that when she said that, she meant more than the cut in her hand. She meant everything I'd helped her through.

"No, you fixed yourself. I was just there to catch you when you fell," I smiled, bringing her hand to my lips as I kissed the back of her palm. "That was deep, Hayes," she giggled. "No, that was the truth," I correct her. She leaned across and kissed me on the cheek. "I love you," she beamed, sitting back into her seat. "Ditto,"

We arrived at the buses about thirty minutes later, the sun now sitting bright in the sky. I saw the familiar blue bus that belonged to Dan and Shay, along with Danielle's white bus next to their's. My bus was in the middle of the two, my band chatting away in front of the bus door. Danielle, Shay, and Dan were talking a few feet away from them. I saw Melody tense up as I parked my car. "Looks like they're here," I say, looking over at everyone. "Uh huh," Melody uttered, all of a sudden becoming shy. We hadn't even left the car yet. I suppose to her, this was probably like going to a new high school halfway through the year, when everyone already knows each other, and she'd be the new kid. Okay, well, I doubt this is as intimidating as high school, but you get my point.

"Do you want to tell them about our relationship now, or later?" I ask her, gently rubbing over her knuckles with my thumb. "Might as well get it over with now," she answered, unbuckling her seatbelt. I did the same, and went around to her side of the car to help her out. When she was standing by my side, I grabbed her hand and quickly kissed her temple. "They'll love you, I know they will," I reassure her, as we walk hand in hand over to them.

"Hey, guys!" I exclaim, waving to everyone. Melody gave a shy wave, followed by a tight grin. "Hey, man. Who's your lady friend?" Shay asked curiously, as Dan followed him. Danielle wasn't far behind. My band shortly joined the little group, surrounding Melody and I. Her grip on my hand tightened. "Guys, I'd like you to meet Melody. We've been together for a while, but you guys are the first to know. I hope you guys will accept her into our little tour family, she's gonna be finishing out the tour with us," I explain, anxious for their reaction.

"Welcome to the tour, Melody! I'm Dan, that's Shay. Nice to meet you," Dan said, shaking her free hand. Shay smiled, nodding at her. "It's awesome to meet you," he said. "It's nice to meet you guys," Melody smiled, opening up a little. "That's Danielle," I said, pointing to her. Danielle walked up to Melody, hesitantly. She glanced down at my hand, which was holding Melody's. "It's cool to meet you, I'm sure we'll be good friends," Danielle smiled sweetly, going in to hug Melody. She let go of my hand to hug Danielle, and I could see in her face that something wasn't right. "You're a lucky girl, Hunter's pretty amazing," Danielle said as they let each other go. Melody reclaimed my hand, this time a little tighter. "I know he is," Melody replied, her voice monotone.

"Well," I say, trying to break up the awkward silence. Although, I don't really know what was making it awkward, but it just was. "Mel, you already know my band, yeah?" I ask, directing my attention to the band. "Yeah, hey guys!" she exclaimed, offering a wave. They all greeted her, and to my surprise, Sam didn't seem all that freaked out that Melody and I are dating. That, or he's a very good actor.

"So," I started, once we'd all piled onto my bus. "We're headed to Dallas, so it'll probably take us two days at the most to get there by bus. As far as hotel rooming, you guys can divide who rooms with who on your own, but no girls and guys in the same room. Danielle, you can room with Melody. Is that okay, Danielle?" I ask, looking at her. "That's fine! Melody, if you like, you can take the extra bunk on my bus. It's just my manager and I on that bus, so we could hang out on there if you ever wanna get away from these noisy boys," she laughed, looking at Melody.

"If you don't mind, that would be great. Thank you," Melody answered, smiling. It wasn't her normal, happy smile. It was a tight smile, almost like it was forced. Something is up with her, but I can't quite figure out what it is.

Girls are complicated.
