Hunter's POV- 4 days later
"Well, you have three phone interviews and a photoshoot today," Betsy explained to me, as the tour bus rolled down the highway. I nodded, plopping down onto the couch behind me. Well, I thought it was behind me...it was about three feet from where I'd thought it was. I ended up falling on my backside, earning a laugh from Betsy.
"You're a trip, Hayes," she commented, shaking her head with a smirk before walking to the back of the bus to work on something. I shrugged my shoulders, pulling my cell phone out of my back pocket. It was seven in the morning, and I had a good feeling Melody wouldn't be awake yet. Opening a new text message, I decide to send her a good morning text.
To: Melody
Good morning, beautiful :) I love and miss you like crazy, I'll be back before we know it. I've got a lot going on today, so I apologize if I can't answer you right away. Have a great day! Sending you bear hugs because you know you love them ;) <3
Smiling at the thought of hopefully seeing her again soon, I slid my phone back into my pocket. It would probably be another two or three hours before she even looks at her phone. seeing as it's only ten after seven. Since Betsy was the only other person on the bus with me, aside from the bus driver, I took the oppurtunity to go back into the 'studio' of the bus to work on some new songs. Although we just released Storyline in May, according to Dan, it's never too early to start working on new stuff.
I grabbed my trusty ol' 'For The Love of Music' acoustic Martin guitar, sitting on the stool next to my computer in the studio of the bus. Putting a capo on the first fret, I strummed a few random chords. "Oh! That sounded good," I tell myself, playing the chords in a certain pattern. Writing the chord progression down on a nearby notepad, I start thinking of how to put a melody to the chords.
Melody for the chords...
Melody..
Dang, I miss her.
"La la la, la da da da da," I quietly sing to myself, trying to think of some lyrics to go with it. After thinking for a few moments, a wave of new lyrics hits me, and the song begins to practically write itself. "Secret love, all the things we do, secret love, baby me and you, got a secret love," I sing, the image of Melody taking up my thoughts. It all clicked; she and I did in fact have a 'secret love', and until we were both ready, that's how it would stay.
A faint knock interrupted my thoughts. I turned around and saw Betsy standing in the doorway. "Sorry to interrupt, but the buses will be fueling up at the gas station up at the light about a mile away, so if you wanna get out of here and go hang out with Shay, Danielle and Dan on their bus, you can," she said with a smile. I nodded, setting my guitar back onto its stand. "Sounds good, will I be doing the interviews on their bus, then?" I ask. She nods. "Yep,"
Sure enough, the bus pulls into a gas station to refuel. I wait till our bus has stopped, then get out and go over to the other bus. "Knock knock," I say, tapping on the doorway of the bus. Dan looked up and smiled. "Hey man, what's up?" he asked as I walked inside. "Nothing, just got lonely on my bus so I thought I'd move on over here," I answer with a laugh. He nods, chuckling.
"Hey, Hunter," Danielle chirps, appearing from the back of the bus. She had a guitar pick in her hand. She'd been given a guitar for her twentieth birthday, and apparently was just now learning to play. I wonder if she's gotten past the 'fingers hurt so bad that you consider giving up' stage of guitar. "Hey," I greet, giving her a wave. Shay looks up from his phone and nods, completely engaged in some game he was playing. "So, I have to do a few phone interviews later, is it alright if I hang out here while I do them?" I ask them, not wanting to intrude.
"Sure, it's fine!" Dan answers. I nod, sitting on the couch across from Shay. I felt my phone buzz in my back pocket. It must be Melody. Sliding my phone out of my pocket, sure enough, it was Melody texting me back. I checked the time at the top of my screen, and it was now just after nine o'clock. Man, time flies more than I thought it did.
From: Melody
Morning, Hunt! (: I love and miss you too, I can't wait till you can finally come back. You're probably busy, so just text back whenever you can. No rush, love ya!
Just as I was about to answer her back, someone tapped me on the shoulder. Looking up, I saw Danielle looking down at me. "Hey, sorry to bother you or anything, but I can't seem to get this one chord right. Can you tell me if it looks right?" she asks, quickly walking to the back of the bus to grab her guitar before I even had a chance to answer. "Sure, go for it," I answer.
She sits next to me, about a foot and a half of space between us. "It's a B minor," she explains, clearly struggling. I chuckled, shaking my head. "Well for one thing, a B minor is a barre chord, which isn't easy for beginners to do, and second of all, you haven't been playing for very long," I answer, as she tries to strum the difficult chord. Failing, she lets her hand fall from the neck of the guitar, clearly frustrated. "You got this, try again," I encourage. She does as I told her. "Try rolling your wrist foward, that might make it easier," I explain. She nods and rolls her wrist, wincing. "That's uncomfortable, my fingers are just so short," she says.
I scoot a few inches closer to her, feeling rather awkward. I wasn't going to put my arms around her like I'd done for Melody when I taught her how to play, that would be awkward for both of us. "Here," I say, slightly curving her index finger.
Danielle's POV
"Is that easier?" he asked. I nodded. I'd been hoping he would just scoot all the way over here and put his arm around me to get the chord right, but he didn't. But hey, at least I got the chord right! I strummed the chord, and it finally sounded like it should. Smiling, I looked up at him. "I got it! Thanks, Hunter," I exclaim happily. He smiles, nodding his head. "No problem,"
2 hours later-Danielle's POV
"Thanks for having me on your radio, man," Hunter said happily into his cell phone. He was on his last phone interview for the day. They had been asking him the same questions all day, like what'd inspired a song, what he missed most about home, and so on. Dan and Shay were in the back of the bus, playing their guitars. I was sitting on the couch across from Hunter, my legs stretched out in front of me.
"Yeah, yeah, it's been incredible. The fans are amazing," he explained to the interviewer. He must've been asked what the tour was like so far. A few seconds passed, and he looked like a deer in headlights for a split second, then regained his composure.
"Oh, no, I'm not seeing anyone at the moment. I don't think I'd have time for a relationship," he said into the phone. I glanced up from my phone for a moment. He's single? How can a guy like him be single? I mean, he's one of the nicest people I know, and I must admit he's rather good looking. I'm almost positive he'd make a good boyfriend for whoever he ends up with someday. I'm sure he'd be a better boyfriend than Brent was. Hunter wouldn't cheat on me like that, he wouldn't cheat on anyone.
But Hunter sees me as just a friend, if that. It's more like a 'co-worker' type thing, most of the time.
I wonder if that could ever change.
***Ehhh, this is mainly a filler chapter, so I apologize if it wasn't all that great. I'll try to update FIAU next time I update, fun stuff is happening in that story! :D***
