Darrin

Nothing can explain how I'm feeling right now. The pain that keeps coming back like an electric shock, is a constant reminder that I have to witness my baby sisters' own death. I placed my head in my hands as I felt my eyes starting to burn. I'm tired of crying, I'm tired of feeling this way.

I leaned my body back on the sofa and stared up at the high ceilings.

I thought seeing Zari earlier today was going to stop the way I'm feeling, but it only made things worse. Seeing her run to me crying, put another major dent in my heart. She's a best friend to me and to know that I'm losing another one is going to literally kill me.

The front door slowly creeping open is what caught my attention. I looked over my shoulder to see Malani with both of her tiny hands on the door knob. She looked at me and smiled as she pushed the door open and ran her tiny little legs towards me. I smiled brightly as I stood to my feet and picked her up to swing her around. Her little giggles filled me up with so much joy.

"Hey, my beautiful niece," I kissed her cheek over and over again. She squealed and tried her hardest to get away from me.

"Nuh uh, where are you trying to go?" I asked as I continued to hold on to her.

"It's too much," She covered her mouth with her hands and smiled.

"Mhm, yeah alright," I chuckled as I put her down on the couch and sat next her.

"Where your sissy and mommy?"

"Well her mom is right behind you."

I looked behind me and smiled.

"You're something else you know that right?"

She jumped over the back of the couch and sat next to me.

"Yeah I know," Zari leaned her head on my shoulder and sighed deeply.

"I got to tell you something though."

"What do you need to tell me?" I asked her. Everything else was already turning for the worse. I didn't need to hear any more bad news.

"We-"

"Daddy!" Reagan screamed as she ran through the front door and towards the steps

I nudge my eyebrows together and mugged.

"I know she see me right here," I pointed to myself causing Zari to laugh.

"She really wanted to see her dad," Zari shrugged.

"Yeah Reagan call your dumb ass father down here, so I can knock some sense into his ass."

I snapped my head into the direction of the lady standing next to the chair with her hand on her hip.

"Who the fuck is that lady?" I asked as I pointed my thumb at her.

"Chris' mom," Zari picked at her nails and stood to her feet.

"Daddy!" Reagan yelled again but this time with more sternness in her voice.

"Oh shit," I mumbled under my breath. "Reagan put a little bass in her voice init?" I heard Zari laugh from behind me and it made me smile that I was still able to make her laugh.

We watched as Chris slowly came down the steps with his hands stuffed in his sweats pocket.

"Pussy," I mugged him.

"Watch your mouth Darrin," Zari grabbed my face with a mug on her face.

"He can still hurt you Darrin, so watch what you say. Especially around my damn children," She mushed my head back as I sat there with a mugged on my face.
