"Hey, do you wanna get ice cream?" Brendon asks.
I love ice cream! Fuck yeah. I'm also craving soda. "Yes! Of course! We should get vanilla cones. And maybe some Dr. Pepper."
Brendon smiles like he doesn't care. It's sort of a sad smile, actually. Almost bittersweet. "Sure."
We walk out of the school doors and I let out a breath. "Y'know, it's actually nice to skip school for a day."
"We're not exactly skipping, they let us off." He chuckles.
I shrug. "I guess. Oh, we can get the ice cream from McDonald's, by the way."
"I know you walk to school, so we can use my car. I kind of just got it, but don't worry! I can drive properly." He laughs.
I narrow my eyes playfully. "How do I know you won't crash and kill both of us?"
"Well... I can drive pretty well already; I got my license almost a month ago. I'm fine with crashing and I don't care what happens to me. What really matters is that you're safe if we crash. Which we probably won't because of aforementioned license." Brendon explains.
I'm shocked my his answer. It's almost as of he was prepared to say it. "Oh.. Thanks? You should really be careful with your own safety too, y'know."
"I guess." We finally reach his car since it was parked in the parking lot across from the high school. I have no idea why they put the parking lot there.
"So, ice cream and Dr. Pepper?" Brendon asks.
"Yep. Those are like, two of my favorite foods." I say. They really are. My mom used to always get me vanilla ice cream cones whenever I was sad, and Dr. Pepper... Okay, I just really like Dr. Pepper.
The drive to McDonald's consisted of us screaming the lyrics to Green Day and Queen songs. We rolled all the windows down and turned the volume all the way up. It was very fun and entertaining, especially when someone would start staring at us like we were crazy. We probably are.
While we were scream/singing, I could've sworn Brendon glanced at me with pink cheeks a few times. He seems so cute when he blushes.
Brendon pulls up through the drive through and orders. "Uh, two vanilla cones please." The lady tells us the price, and I instinctively reach for my wallet.
After we drive up to the next window, Brendon sees what I'm doing and puts his hand on my wallet. He also terrifyingly looks me straight in the eyes and says, "Do. Not. Pay. I'll pay, and it'll be my pleasure. Besides, it's only two dollars."
I nod and let him pay. He hands me my cone and parks in the parking lot so we can eat our ice cream.
Brendon licks his ice cream and speaks. "So."
"So?" I ask. I also start eating my ice cream.
"Oh, hey, do you wanna listen to some music? I have Beatles, Nirvana, The Cure...?" He says.
"Oh! Play The Beatles." I exclaim.
He smiles and puts the music on. Suddenly the notes of "Hey Jude" fill the car and we start singing.
After a bit, we realize it's not a good idea to sing while eating ice cream. Brendon's was melting very quickly since he was singing more and I was eating mine too fast, which resulted in me almost choking on the cone part.
We both laugh after I almost choke, and Brendon turns the volume of the music down a few notches. He grabs a few napkins and wipes off the melted vanilla ice cream off his hands. We finish both of our cones a few minutes later.
"Still want soda?" Brendon asks.
I roll my eyes. "Is that even a question?"
"I'll take that as a yes. Where do we go for just soda? Preferably Dr. Pepper?" He asks.
"Uh, it's only..." I check my watch. "11:00. We could go to my house, I guess. My mom is home since she didn't have work today, and I have tons of Dr. Pepper at my house."
Brendon grins. "Oh, cool. I guess we're going to your house." He seems to be all giddy now. He starts the car and we head to my home. I don't need to tell him directions since he lives in the house across from mine.
During the drive there, Brendon seems really happy. I feel like his joy is somehow spreading to me. Like it's disseminating disease. Am I starting to have feelings for him?
