"So when are we going to get this over with?" I asked my brother, gazing up into his dazzling eyes.
"Right now" Sam answered gently, standing up whilst softly holding my hand.
"No...Sam..." I stuttered, letting go of his hand as I began to run away. But I stopped when I noticed he wasn't chasing after me. I let out a prolonged sigh, dipped my head into my chest and slowly walked back towards my brother, where he gently gripped my hand again and led me back into the room we were in not even ten minutes ago.
"Sam, can't we do it another day?" I begged, letting go of his hand and sitting down in the chair.
"Well I have a compromise I think you may be fond of Billy" Sam said, smiling compassionately. "If you let me extract the tooth today, I'll take off all the brackets on your teeth and leave them off for a whole week."
A small smile slipped from the corner of my mouth.
"But that's not all!" Sam exclaimed with glee, ruffling up my messy curls. "I will also take you to the Saturday fete tomorrow and let you go on any rides you want and I'll even buy you anything you want. How does that sound?"
"That sounds absolutely amazing Sam!" I cheered, jumping up from the chair and hugging him tight. "But why are you being so nice to me?"
"Aren't I always nice to you?" he laughed, rubbing my shoulder.
I didn't reply, instead I just raised my eyebrows at his smug face.
"Basically Billy, I feel a bit guilty. I should've told you earlier that you needed your tooth out. Also, to admit it, getting a tooth out isn't the best thing in the world, so I thought it'd make you happier after the operation."
"Operation?!" I shouted, backing away slightly.
"No... no... Billy. It's not an operation, it's just the term we use for it. Sorry, I should've thought about who I'm actually talking to."
"Okay, well I think the compromise sounds very nice" I admitted.
"Alright, well the quicker we get this done, the quicker we can get out of here" Sam informed, gesturing towards the chair.
"Sam, I'm scared" I admitted, slowly lowering my body into the chair.
"Don't worry buddy, it'll be done fast. First I'm going to remove all the brackets and glue anyway."
I nodded my head, and the chair was lowered, as well as a bib applied to my chest. Sam called Adam in and they began work on removing my braces. After about ten minutes, my teeth were naked and free, it felt amazing!
"How's that Billy?" Sam asked, removing the tools from my mouth and lowering his mask.
I slid my tongue along my teeth and wow!
"They feel so smooth!" I smiled, looking up at my brother excitedly. I then pulled up the camera on my phone and smiled intensely into the lens.
"Still super crooked and yellow though" I sighed.
"That's because you haven't finished your whole treatment with braces yet Billy" Sam reassured me. "And your teeth really aren't that yellow" he laughed.
"Yeah, well compared to yours" I frowned, pointing to his pearly whites. Sam just grinned and mockingly chattered his teeth together.
"Thanks for the help Adam" Sam smiled to him.
"No problem, i'm heading home now anyway. Have a great weekend guys!"
We both waved Adam off as he left the room, leaving us with the dreaded moment of truth. The extraction!
"Billy, I have a few requests that could help you out massively during this next procedure" Sam began to say as he got prepped, pulling things out of cupboards and placing them on a silver tray laying beside me.
"Okay" I gulped.
"I'd like you to plug in your earphones and listen to music on your phone, it'll keep you distracted. I'd like you to keep your eyes closed the whole time, don't open them even to peek. Finally, keep your mouth open as wide as possible the whole time, and if I move your head or mouth into any specific position, please cooperate. This way I can do my work without any hassle and we'll both have an easier experience during this. Does that sound okay?"
"Yes" I replied. "But Sam"
"Yes Billy?" Sam replied, looking down at me in sorrow.
"Please can you be gentle"
"Gentle as I can" he smiled down at me.
And to that, I plugged in my earphones and layed my head back in the rest. I opened my mouth wide as possible like instructed, and slowly closed my eyes until everything was dark. The music didn't take away all the sounds though, I could still slightly hear Sam in the background, preparing for the torture he was about to perform. I knew there was no use in fighting against Sam, it'd just make him angry, and no body likes an angry dentist! I just had to sit back and let my brother do his work, at least I was to get a prize at the end of all this!
After a few minutes of laying in the chair, nothing happened. Until I felt Sam make contact with my mouth, rubbing something along my gum, it was tickly. Within a few moments my mouth began to go numb, it didn't feel right. I quickly peeked from the corner of my eye to notice Sam filling up a large syringe with some liquid. No wonder he'd told me not to peek! In a frantic panic, I closed my mouth shut as well as my eyes, tighter than they were before. I felt Sam's presence edging closer towards me, until his finger touched my lips, obviously wanting me to open wide. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I knew it'd make him mad, but I just couldn't. After a few more taps on my lips, I finally decided to give in, and opened my mouth as wide as possible, with my eyes still tightly shut of course. Sam pulled my lip out the way and I felt a painful nip in my gum, which lasted what seemed like ages. I raised my hands up to my eyes to try and shut out the pain, but it slowly stopped and it felt so much better. Imagine what it would've been like without that numbing gel!! Then, I felt heavy pulling on one of my teeth, Sam wobbled it back and forth frantically, until I felt the pop of it coming out. It was over!! I opened my eyes excitedly, but wished I hadn't so immediately. There was blood all over Sam's gloves and my bib! I quickly pulled out my earphones in order to talk to Sam in this hell-like moment.
"Sa-" I tried to say, but blood was slowly filling my mouth.
Sam raised the chair.
"Don't worry Billy, this is nothing unusual with a tooth extraction, just spit in this sink and i'll put a gauze sponge in your mouth" Sam said very calmly, changing his gloves and pointing to a small sink beside me.
After dribbling what seemed like an ocean of blood into the sink, Sam lifted up my chin and placed something cottony inside my mouth.
"Bite down on it Billy and don't open your mouth, this will suck up the blood."
Gross.
"You did very well Billy, i'm proud of you! And maybe the tooth fairy will come tonight" he winked.
I rolled my eyes in return and began to sit in the chair, but Sam pushed me back down.
"No Billy, just stay seated in the chair until it's time to leave, incase you feel dizzy, okay?"
I rolled my eyes again, yet followed my brother's request.
Once Sam had cleaned up the workspace, it was time to go home. What an eventful day!
