Nervously, I stood up and followed Sam through to his examination room, closing the door behind me. Once the door was shut, Sam began setting a few things up, leaving me standing in the middle of the room, slightly bewildered.
"Good day at school Billy?" he asked casually as he always does, looking over at me briefly.
"Not bad" I answered. "I have a parental form you need to fill in, for your visit tomorrow" I informed him, pulling out a scrunched up piece of paper from my pocket and showing him.
"Ah good, I'll sign that later" he said. "Can you jump in the chair for me please, Billy?"
"Yeah" I muttered. "I'm a bit nervous though Sam" I said. "I feel really hot."
"Don't be nervous Billy, it's not going to hurt one bit, and I can promise you that. Maybe take off your school blazer?"
I chucked my backpack in the corner of the room and followed Sam's advice, and took off my blazer, leaving my top half in just my white shirt and school tie. I then nervously stumbled into the chair.
"Billy, are you okay?" Sam asked, touching my forehead with the back of his hand. "You're really sweaty, do you feel alright?"
"I'm okay Sam, just nervous." I admitted, shaking slightly.
"Are you going to be okay though, because I won't have time for any messing about I'm afraid." Sam said, still touching my forehead.
"I'll be okay Sam."
He stared at me for a few seconds, still touching my forehead with the back of his hand. It looked like he was thinking, yet confused.
"Billy, I'm going to leave this until another time, because you really don't seem right today. Is that okay?"
"Oh, right. Fine" I said bluntly, starting to feel a lot less nervous.
"Can you wait in one of my spare rooms until I finish work please, Billy? I don't want you at home on your own if your temperature is high."
"Sam, I'm not ill" I said standing up from the chair slowly. "I'm just anxious. You can fix my tooth now, it's fine."
"Billy, I don't have time for messing around" said Sam.
"I'm not messing you around! You're the one who said we should just do it another time. I'm fine with doing it now!" I started to shout, beginning to get angry.
"Calm down, alright Billy?" Sam said softly.
"For goodness sake Sam, what is your problem?" I yelled, picking up my bag and blazer angrily.
"Can you go wait in my spare examination room please, Billy?" Sam said quietly.
Without even looking at him, I stomped out the door full of rage and headed into the spare examination room, chucking my belongings on the floor and sitting in the corner of the room, sulking into my hands. I didn't cry. I was just angry.
Five minutes later, Jasmine, the receptionist, walked into the room and closed the door behind her. She took a seat on the floor next to me.
"Hey Billy, Sam asked me to come talk to you. What's up?" she asked softly.
I looked up at her, confused, then sighed.
"It's just Sam" I huffed. "Like, he was supposed to fix my chipped tooth today, but he said I wasn't feeling right. Then, I said I wanted it fixed but he told me he didn't have time for messing around, but I wasn't messing him around! I was just a little bit nervous. I really hate him sometimes."
