Katie sat at her desk making a device that could save her brother and father, her laptop open next to her showing all the security footage. She glanced at the screen and raked through her hair with her hand. Lance and Keith snuggled on Lance's bed, talking and kissing as they tried to hide from the camera. Nice try. They still insisted that they weren't even together, but all the pictures on Pidge's phone said otherwise. On the screen next to that was Shiro's room. He thrashed in his bed as he probably had another nightmare. He had them every now and then. Pidge would go wake him, but she knew better.
The last time she rushed him awake, he had attacked her. He is still angry with himself for doing that.
She couldn't bare to watch him thrash anymore so she turned her eyes to the kitchen where Hunk showed Ivairan how to make some special dish they were having for dinner. The warmth in her lap wiggled and awoke.
"Morning Dimitri," Pidge said to the Galra child snuggling to her chest in her lap. He looked up at her with sleepy golden eyes.
"You're still working on that thing? How much longer will it take? I want to play!" Dimitri cried, pulling on her shirt as he rocked in her lap. According to Dimitri, he was seven, but he was small for a seven-year-old and had the personality of a five-year-old.
Katie groaned. "I would love to stop and play with you, but we need this device as soon as possible!" she told him as she patted his back. "Just go back to sleep or go play with- never mind he is with Uncle Lance... Hunk is busy, Shiro is asleep, and it looks like Allura and Coran are working on the castle... Guess your stuck with me. Oh, how about a computer game? Earth has lots of them. I made one of my own. It's on the monitor over there."
She pointed to the table next to her where a old computer sat, dust covered after a year of nonuse. Dimitri scrunched his nose. "No. I'll just watch you from here." Katie laughed as she messed with the wiring of her device. She looked at the screen again when she saw a flicker of motion in Shiro's room. He was awake and leaving his room in a daze. Katie began to hum as she tweaked her project. It was the song her mother would always hum at random times.
----
Her hand unknowingly started to rub Dimitri's back when she finished. She continued humming as she turned her head to the screen. Shiro had left his room ages ago. They were all gathered in the dinner hall, waiting for something. What time was it? Pidge looked at the clock to notice it was past time to eat. "Oh, quiznak."
She was about to stand when she realized Dimitri had fallen asleep on her lap again. Shoving the device in her pocket, she placed her right hand on his back then her left under his butt. She lifted him up to her shoulder and lightly pressed his body against her own so he wouldn't fall. She stood and walked to the door, careful to not to wake the child. What did Peggle sign her up for?
As Katie made it to the door, she could practically see Peggle telling that she better not wake Dimitri as the Galra guard glared at her. She sighed and stepped into the hall. The girl turned and made her way to the dinning hall. Her stomach grumbled as if yelling at her to feed it. The brunette hadn't eaton today since she was focused on saving her family the whole time. Now she realized the slightly painful state of hunger she was in as her stomach continued to growl at her. Halfway to food, she spotted someone coming her direction. It was Matt. How did he leave the locked room? She last saw him in that very room on her laptop where it showed the camera footage. Matt spotted her.
