"Maybe they are already on Earth...," Hunk suggested as they continued to search for the missing Pidge and Dimitri. Shiro was worried about the fact that they haven't even found the two yet. He only nodded as Hunk dove to enter Earth. Hopefully, somewhere here was Pidge and Dimitri, lost in confusion.
They were quick to notice the crashed pod that landed in a wide open sand field. Yellow flew to it as quick as it could, not wanting to waste any time. Shiro spotted the colors green and purple when they got close enough to see the dots sitting in front of the tube. Hunk noticed them too and practically flung the lion at the ground. When it crashed into the floor, a few feet from the pod, sand flew up, obscuring the vision of the pod and lion.
"Hello?" Pidge called as Dimitri clung to the back of her leg. They were to focused on rewiring the pod to even see the giant metal space lion flying to them with incredulous speed. A voice that she'd recognize any day, even after a year apart, called back to her.
"Katie!? Dimitri!?" Pidge grabbed Dimitri's hand and ran further into the sand-cloud to the source. A silhouette appeared through the dust and Katie stopped running. Shiro stepped into her vision and the worry on his face vanished, relaxing his shoulders. Shiro gave her a hug, "was that how it felt when I disappeared a year ago? That feeling increasing each day... Katie how did you survive with that?"
Katie hugged back, Dimitri at their legs. She thought of her time on Earth. It was torturous and her nightmares doubled the dread and lost she felt, but the thought of finding Shiro and her family had kept her running. She pulled away from their lengthy hug.
She had gave Shiro a fraction of that. She never wanted him to even feel a hundredth of that, that deep pain that clawed at her soul each day. "If what you felt was even a little bit of what I felt, please never feel it again," she said as Shiro lead her and their adopted son to Hunk's lion. Inside, Hunk awaited with a look of preparedness. He was dreading for what he thought would come, but it really never did.
The three just sat in the corner, Pidge's head on Shiro's shoulder with Dimitri in her lap. It was silent except Pidge's random, "I'll finish your Altean arm when we return." When they arrived, what they saw surprised them.
The other three paladins had Lotor surrounded, hindering the Prince from escaping. Hunk knew what needed to happen and dropped the three off at the castle. "Go to Green," he said to Pidge, looking her in the eyes. She nodded and turned away, heading for her lion's chamber. This was their chance to end the war, without their commander, the Garla would be weakened. This time they'll be picking off the Galra before they can get a new leader.
Hunk waved to Dimitri and Shiro and reentered his lion. He gave one last glance at Pidge's back as she left the room.
-----
Pidge ran to her lion, wanting to be of help as fast as possible. She saw Green and got nervous. She hasn't really fought someone of high standards in her lion in a while. Would Lotor be like fighting Zarkon? or would it be worse since he's like Zarkon 2.0 mixed with Altean?
She told herself to stop wasting time as she climbed into her lion, determined to end this war today. She wanted that ending she saw as they floated to Earth- and she wanted it badly. There was nothing that'll stop her from achieving it. She flew Green out into the space."Pidge? Have you reached Green, yet?" Lance asked through the communication line.
"Yes, I'm on my way. Don't get to cocky and try to defeat him without me now," Pidge replied, smiling to herself. She really had missed fighting along side her friends. Now Allura gets to experience this with them. She didn't care if this might be the end of their adventures in space, all things were meant to have a end.
And this will be the end.
She rounded the corner to see that Hunk had join the others in surrounding Lotor. It was time to form Voltron. Pidge hadn't formed the giant robot with Allura and the new positions, but she knew it'd work. They'd been on the same team long enough to connect. They got in formation and felt their souls level with the others as the lions formed Voltron. Lotor tried to escape in the few moments that it took for them to transform, but they were quick to stop him.
They formed the sword as Lotor fired straight at the green lion. What did he have against Pidge!?
~Later~
The flight was a blur for Pidge. They said she hit her head and got all weird on them, leaving Voltron without a proper arm. It was hard to fight Lotor without her, but they managed. When she awoke, she was in her room and the war was over, for now.
Lotor was captured and out.
She could finally return to a normal life, but in all honestly, could she really? After all that the whole universe has gone through, could things ever seem like normal again? Or will there be a new normal for all of them? What would it'd be like after they all returned home, letting the rebels snuff out the Galra?
Would it even be the same? She doubts that anything would be the same after this suffering... but along as she had her family, she was fine because they were all she needed to be happy in this world. She knew what it was like without them and never wants to feel that again.
Maybe she can even begin her own family. Pidge liked the thought of that as she smiled to herself. Yeah, sounds perfect.
