"Speaking of favors, you still owe me one." Sophitz

When Sophie opened the door after she finished her Cognate training with Fitz, Grizel was prancing up and down the hallways, much to the annoyance of Sandor.

"What," Sophie asked, deeply confused, "is happening?"

"Grizel is trying to get me to dance tonight," Sandor explained. "It's not going to happen."

"But I still have my favor, and I'm using it tonight!" Grizel called out.

Sandor sighed. "Okay, then," Sophie replied, closing the door again.

"What's going on?" Fitz asked.

"Grizel is using her favor to make Sandor dance tonight."

"Speaking of favors," Fitz began, standing up and walking closer to Sophie, "you still owe me one."

She cringed. She wasn't looking forward to telling Fitz her secret.

He sighed. "I know you don't want to tell me, and I don't want to rush you, but you have to tell me eventually. What's so bad about it?"

When she didn't respond, he added, "You've already told me so many other secrets, why is this one so much harder?" He reached out to touch her arm.

"Um, this one is kind of about you." She shrugged his hand off.

"Oh." He gestured to the bed, and they both sat down. Sophie put a little bit of distance between them.

After steeling her nerves, and forming the words over and over again in her head, she finally transmitted a very small, I like you.

He didn't say anything at first. She was debating whether to walk past Sandor and Grizel, or to wait to hear his response. Which each passing moment, the latter seemed less and less appealing.

Just as she was getting up, he finally asked, Really?

Yeah. She didn't turn back to look at him.

I like you, too.

She froze in her tracks. She turned around, studying his expression. He looked hopeful and sheepish, so she assumed he was telling the truth. She walked back to the bed and sat down, closer this time.

That was a good favor, Fitz finally said. Sophie smiled.

I'm glad you told me.
