Fitz grabbed Sophie's hand, leading her to the Panakes tree. "Listen, Sophie, there's something I need to tell you."
"Yes?" she asked, cocking her head, concerned.
"Well, there's no such thing as Cognate rings," he said after a pause.
"What do you mean?" Sophie fingered the ring encircling her thumb.
"I just wanted an excuse to give you rings," he admitted. She smiled, kissing him.
"And now I've found another excuse to give you a ring."
She furrowed her brow. "What?"
He got down on one knee, taking out a small diamond ring with a teal stone. "Fitz..." she breathed.
"Sophie Elizabeth Foster. I love you more than anything in this world. We've already been through so much together, and I want to do everything with you, for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?"
She inhaled sharply. She'd had a crush on Fitz since she first met him, and she'd loved him for years now. She realized she hadn't said anything out loud yet, because Fitz was looking up at her nervously.
"Of course!" She threw her arms around him. He lifted her up, spinning her around and kissing her.
