I pulled into my driveway and hopped out of Landon's car. Leah and Landon follow me to the door as I fumble with my keys. When I finally get inside, I book it to my garage door. Leah and Landon share confused looks and, hesitantly, follow me inside. Upon their arrival, I hear sounds of amazement.
"What the hell is this?" asks Leah. "It's a teleporter," I say bluntly. Landon laughs then looks to me and Leah. "What? You're serious?"
"Of course."
I pull on my lab coat and walk over to the machine to switch it on. It lights up as it powers on. Silence surrounds me when they realize that I'm not joking.
"GUYS! What's going on-" Nathan shouts when he rushes through the open door. Sammy walks in right behind him with her mouth wide open. I walk over to my camera as the others gaze upon my machine in wonder. "How have you hidden this foe so long?" asks Leah.
"Lots of work to make sure that nobody comes in here. Especially since all my friends are nosy pieces of crap," I look towards Landon and he shys away. I shake my head and continue to power on the camera.
"So now that you're all here, I can tell you what this is exactly, and why I hid it from everyone... And what exactly went wrong with it," I say. They all stare at me and I start to sweat. I've always hated speaking in front of people.
"About eight years ago, I started to make plans to build a teleportation device. I saved up all of my extra money in order to buy the parts, even went to college just so I could show off a degree in order to buy them. They all arrive within two years of me purchasing them, so I started working then. That was five years ago.
Once I stated building it I knew that I couldn't tell anybody because it could get around, then taken up by the government. I locked it in here and removed all ways that light could escape, and sound-proofed all the walls in my house. That itself took a long time, but I would rather be safe than sorry. Even with all my precautions in my testing and environment, something went really wrong..."
I didn't realize that I had closed my eyes until I open them. Everybody is awestruck and doesn't know what to say, or even ask. "So... You're actually a girl?" Sam is the first to say something.
"Technically, no. I just have my memories from my original deminsion. I'm still a boy right here and now." Another long pause and I search through the footage on my camera. "What caused you to, ya know, come here?" I giggle at Nathan's question. "You guys are treating me like an alien. I'm not, I'm just from another deminsion that's exactly like this one. Its not that difficult to understand." I stop at Test #2000 and roll the tape. They hear the sound and come bounding over to watch with me.
I stare at the screen with intensity, and watch as I hop onto the platform. The screen goes white and I appear again on the other platform, on the ground. I rewind and slow it down. The same thing occurs.
Even slower.
Zoom in.
There.
My lab coat flutters slightly off the platform right before the bright light appears. That has to be it! My entire being wasn't inside the machine, so it malfunctioned while trying to keep me intact!
I rush to the first platform, then stare at my friends. They all look sad and shocked. "You're leaving us?" asks Sam. I look down, "I need to get back to my home, but you'll have the old Kameron back!"
Silence envelopes me.
"Will everything be different?" asks Landon. He stares at me intently and I regret everything I've ever done. "It won't," I step off the platform, "You'll have your original Kameron back, and yes, some things will be different, but it'll be better. I promise." I hug Landon. Everyone else joins in. I feel hot, sweaty tears run down my face as I pull away. Sam comes up to me and gives me the most passionate kiss I've ever had. She looks me in the eyes and gives me a reassuring smile. "Do what you want to do." I nod my head and step to the control panel. The timer starts to go off and as soon as that one second hits, I move so that the tip of my lab coat is hanging off and I see everyone staring at me
The white light returns again.
