Stare...
I stared for some time into space.
I stared right into that glass.
A subtle snap then broke my concentration.
"Rachael?"
I snapped back into reality, quickly fixing my posture in my seat. "Huh?"
"Are you alright?" Miles asks, very concerned.
I stared down at the counter. My eyes slowly drifted back to the martini. "...yeah." Lifting my drink, I twirled it around. I settled it on the surface again and huffed. "Hey, Miles?"
"Yes...?"
"...can...martinis...fizz?"
"What?"
"I'm just wondering..." I stared at the crystal skeptically.
"Why? Is something wrong with your drink?"
"I...think so?"
"Let me see," Miles took up my glass, examining the liquid. "It seems to be fine."
"Are you sure? Because it doesn't seem that way."
Miles arches an eyebrow. "Why are you so paranoid?"
"It's just that, I heard something drop, like as if it fell into a liquid. I just feel like something fell in it."
Miles settles the glass down, and arches an eyebrow. "Have you've ever been to a formal like this?"
"W-Well, no, not exactly. But I have attended smaller ones."
"Well, in these types of events, only professional and classy individuals are invited. Of course, maturity and dignity is essential." Miles turned to me. "You have to relax, Rachael."
"I know, but still." I clenched my cheeks, crying. "Ugh! If only I didn't hastily take a sip, then get into a pointless fight with Apollo about drinking, then I would have noticed if something was wrong!"
"I'm pretty sure you're just paranoid."
Rolling my eyes, I snatch the glass from him, and glanced inside once more. "Fine, I'll take a sip."
"Go ahead." Miles smirks, resting his chin in his hand.
Inhaling the aroma of the liquor, I take a small mouthful of the apple martini and swallow. My face became disgusted with the horrible taste. "What the heck? Why does it taste like this?! I didn't drink this, did I?" I gag, wiping my mouth. "How did I say that this tasted so good earlier?!"
Miles took the glass from me. Sniffing the drink, he leans his arm on the counter. "Let me take a sip then."
"What?!" I gawk at him. "Don't just take a sip! It could have been spiked!"
Ignoring my words, Miles proceeded. "Don't worry about it. If it's spiked, then I'll get the side effects first." He drank half of it.
"...hey!" I pouted, folding my arms.
Miles savors his taste buds, pondering the taste of the drink. "It tastes delightful." He says innocently.
"Seriously?" I say befuddled.
"Yes. It doesn't taste weird at all."
"Wow," I sigh, holding my forehead. "I must be going crazy tonight... sorry."
