While being driven home in Nick's car, we had a deep conversation about what had happened during these past two weeks. He described the frustration of seeing how different Maya was acting, when her fiancé was present.

She was so... melancholy. I remember him saying. But...she started to warm up to me again, the longer I stayed with her. I wasn't planning on staying up there for that long, but I knew that once I saw the reality for what it was, I couldn't leave so soon.

Nick said that he plans to take Maya's hand.

I was dumbfounded by his statement, as even now, I don't know what he means by that.

When we arrived home, Nick had taken out his phone, going straight to the kitchen.

"You're making a business call?"

"I'm calling Miles."

My heart pounded hearing the attorney say that. "W-Why?"

"Don't you, too, want to hear for yourself what happened?"

I remained silent, not uttering a word.

The phone rang a few times, until it went to voicemail.

"He's probably ignoring your calls." I sighed.

"No. He wouldn't. He knows that he can't do that."

"Why?"

Nick turned and looked into my eyes. "Miles won't be able to live with himself, if he doesn't take responsibility for something precious he's broken."

I blushed, taken aback by his choice of words. "Well, it doesn't matter anyways. After what he did to me, and on top of that, not once, coming to visit me..." I lowered my eyes, feeling the sharp pain of recalling the thoughts to mind. "...I don't think I could even face him...I don't have the guts."

"You may not," Nick redialed his number. "But Miles will."

My face reddened even more. "...it's not fair."

Phoenix glanced at me with an arch eyebrow. "What isn't?"

"...why does it always feel like I'm the one who has to chase after others, when something shattering happens between us...?" I said. "...it isn't fair..."

Nick didn't know what to say. Humbly, he walked to me, and embraced me. "Don't I chase you, when I do something wrong Rachael?"

My eyes widening, I nodded. "Yes, I'm sorry!" I cried into his shoulder. "I know that you've always been there for me Nick, I know!" I hugged him tightly, gripping his suit jacket. "But it just hurts me so much, that the guy that I knew ever since I was little, just ditched me like that! He didn't even second guess his decision, and he left me behind!"

Nick tried to hush me, petting my head. "I know it's painful, Rach, but just wait a little longer until we unmask the truth of what happened. I've heard your side of the story, right?"

"...y-y-yes..." I sniffled.

"So, don't you think it would be fair to hear Miles' side?"

He was right.

Gently pushing away from Nick, I rubbed my eyes weakly. "...okay."

"I'll get you some tea. In the meantime, just sit down and relax, okay? I'll do the talking with Miles."

"...okay." Sheepishly, I went and sat.
