22. The Turnabout Friendship

"I'm going to go and talk to Apollo." Miles said sternly.

I nodded obediently. This is for the best... "Don't be too harsh on him, okay...?"

"I don't know what I'll be, until it happens."

I gulped hard. "Yeah..." He's really angry.

Walking over, Miles interrupted Phoenix's conversation, with Maya and Ema. "Mr. Wright."

"Hey, do you need something?"

"I want you to go with Rachael for a walk."

"Huh? What's going on?" Nick arches an eyebrow.

"I need to talk with Apollo, privately."

"Oh." The ace attorney didn't go any further into details.

Weird...why didn't Nick question what Miles motives are?

"Rachael." Nick calls to me.

"Y-Yes!"

"Let's go for a walk." He nudges his head in one direction.

"Uh...okay." Quietly, I glanced at Miles, walking away.

When we got around the other side of the floor, I finally spoke up. "Um...Nick?"

"Sup?"

Rubbing my neck anxiously, I grumbled. "Uh...how come you didn't question Miles when he told you that?"

"Oh? Is that why you're so quiet?"

I laughed hesitantly. "...yeah, sort of."

"Welp," Nick clapped his hands together, rubbing them together. "Remember earlier, when Miles and I were talking privately in the living room?"

"Yeah?"

"Technically, I'm not supposed to tell you this, but," He shrugged. "We were talking about Apollo."

"O-Oh...!" I gasped.

It was pretty surprising to hear that Nick was talking about the guy.

"Miles told me that he's been seeing Apollo more frequently, and is often around you, these days. He believes that Apollo is compensating for something."

"Like, what...?"

"Who knows. But once he told me that he believed that Apollo was plotting something, I somewhat agreed with him." Nick placed his hands up in my direction.

I guess, he already knew what my reaction was going to be.

"Now, don't get me wrong! Apollo is a very good friend of mine. But I know where Miles is coming from. Apollo can be manipulative."

"E-Even you say that?"

"Believe me, I know Apollo is a good person. He's very caring, devoted to his friends and his work; but he does have the tendency to manipulate others."

"Oh..." I rubbed the back of my neck.

"What? You don't believe me?"

"...no, it's not that." I mumbled. "It's just that...hearing it come from you...is...weird." I laughed hesitantly.

"Say...Rachael, I mentioned that Miles and I had spoken in private, earlier."

"Yeah, what about it?"

Nick smiles, shrouding his hands into his pockets. "Miles may seem as though he's being overly protective of you. But I can see where he's coming from." He glances down at me. "Miles had some history with Apollo."
