"Are you going to be prosecuting our case?"

"I wasn't planning on it."

I stared hard at Miles, trying to pry whatever he was hiding, out of him. "Who did you get a phone call from, the other day?"

"Where did that come from?" He arches an eyebrow.

"You seemed so upset at Nick's apartment, when you answered your phone." I explained. "...I thought someone was bothering you."

Miles sighs, closing his eyes. "There will always be someone who's bothering me."

"I know..." I gripped my cup of coffee tightly. "...if you want, you can talk to me about it."

Miles eyes lit up. Hastily, he looked down at his cup, twirling it gently. "I don't think I want to, to be honest."

"Oh...okay." I went quiet.

The way we sat among each other was so tense. Miles didn't say anything for some time, and I just stared at the table, lost about what I should do.

"Here is the cheese bread, you ordered." The waitress settles the plate down on the table, and nods, walking away.

Miles took a knife and fork, and spilt it in half, offering me.

"No, it's fine. I'm okay. "I smiled timidly.

"You haven't had breakfast yet. You should eat."

Holding my stomach, I pouted. "Okay."

I nibbled on the bread, trying to get Miles attention. What am I doing...? I thought hopelessly. I feel like a little kid, trying to get attention from my father.

Swallowing, I spoke up. "Miles?"

Miles looks up from his plate. "Hm?"

"Are you okay?"

Miles thought sincerely for a moment. "I could be better."

"I know, but, that's what's worrying me right now."

"You don't have to worry about me, Rachael. What's important is that you stay focused during tomorrow's trial, and be very reliant on Apollo."

"Now, where's this coming from?" I gawked. "You'd never rely on Apollo for anything. What's going on? And what was with that phone call?!" I pleaded.

"Rachael." Miles stopped eating his food to look at me. I was taken aback by his cold expression, and backed off. "Please...stop asking me about the phone call. This is something that I need to deal with for myself."

Why is he acting like this...? "...whatever." I looked away, embittered.

Miles exhaled, not furthering the conversation.

After our morning together, we went our separate ways. I went in for work at the courthouse.

I couldn't help but think about Miles. When I first stepped into the workplace, I just stood there, questioning why I even bothered showing up.

Being in a state of discomfort while being at a job isn't good... I thought. ...I should just leave this matter in the back of my mind for the time being.

Stepping into my boss's office, I bowed humbly, waiting for his request.

"Rachael."

"Yes, sir?"

"So, I hear that you have a trial tomorrow?"

"...Yes, sir."

Turning around in his chair to face me, he continued. "Care to explain?"
