'I love you...' I thought to myself.
I quietly sat in the courtroom, watching Phoenix Wright object to certain things the witness testified to. They were left, baffled---just like any other witness who talks against him----by the way he is able to point out the contradictions that no one else notice. But what caught my attention, was Mr. Edgeworth. "Gosh, he's amazing..." I exhaled excitedly. The way the corners of his lips turned up when he had an idea. The way he grinned, making Mr. Wright feel intimidated by his expression. The way Mr. Edgeworth taps his face, and looks up at the defense, plotting his next attack. "So hot..." I sighed in my chair.
It really sucks to be part of the jury. I was forced to take lessons by my parents will, and apply to law school, to defend the legal rights of citizens. But it's no fun to be part of something that brings misery to people's lives. Especially with all the gossip that has been going around, pertaining to Mr. Edgeworth.
The witness name is Damon Gant. He's an incredibly adorable guy, but he's way too old for me. The Chief of Police, age 65, was accused of murder, by Mr. Wright's logic. I believe him, though. He's the only one who could have been involved in the SL-9 case two years ago, it's obvious! What's depressing, though, is that Mr. Edgeworth has found out that he was involved in the case too for Forged evidence.
What a terrible way to continuously blemish Mr. Edgeworth's title much further. He's already being beaten down by false accusations among the court. It's annoying enough as it is hearing the jury murmur against him because of his past mistakes, even when it wasn't his fault.
The judge knocked his gravel on the platform, ending the trial for the second day. I sighed in relief, leaving my seat and exited the courtroom. Phoenix, Ema, and Miles stood in the lobby. I slowly passed by them to the front desk, to pack my files into my bag.
"What are we going to do?!" I heard Ema Skye ask.
"I don't know." Phoenix scratched his head. "Something isn't clicking about Gant. He's hiding something from the court, and from us."
Miles scoffed, as a smug look crept on his face. "Well, you better find out what it is before it's too late. The case ends tomorrow."
Phoenix sighed out loud. "I know. The only problem is that the only place I haven't checked out is the Chief Prosecutors office. He won't allow me in, even though it's the room that the crime scene occurred in."
"Let's just ask that clumsy Detective." Ema suggested.
"You mean Detective Gumshoe?" Phoenix asked.
"Yeah!" Ema cheered.
I couldn't help but see the seriousness in Mr. Edgeworth's eyes. He closed his eyes and shook his head. "You better get to it then. You don't have much time."
A smirk wiped over Mr. Wrights lips. "Aren't you nice to give me motivation to find more evidence?"
Ema tilted her head. "Wait, don't you want to find out what happened with the evidence?" Phoenix asked.
Edgeworth didn't say anything. He merely said 'indeed', and said goodbye.
I watched him take his departure, and followed him out of the lobby. I didn't want to be noticed by him, so I followed by a distance, holding my books in my arms tightly. Mr. Edgeworth left the front doors, and pulled out his cellphone. Dialing a number, someone picked up.
"Gumshoe, are you still at the Criminal Affair's Department?" He listened. "Do you think you can help Phoenix get into Gant's office?" He listened even more. "Well, he needs more evidence on the case, and Gant's office is the last place to be searched. So whenever you get the chance, talk to them. See you." He closed his phone, and kept walking.
We eventually reached the parking lot, and he was apparently taking the elevator to the underground parking lot. I couldn't just walk into the elevator with him though! But I had no choice. I casually waited a few feet behind, as the doors opened, getting in with him. He didn't look at me, not one bit. I shook, trying to keep my composure.
"Are...you alright?" He asked.
With my heart rapidly shooting signals out of my chest, I nod. "Yes, I am!" I manage to say.
He nodded, and looked ahead, sighing. "What a day..."
I became calm, hearing those words. He's so misunderstood...
The doors opened, as he left. I walked out, and watched him as he went into his office, and closed the door. "I did hear that the Chief Prosecutor had a unique office," I looked around, observing the parked cars. "but I didn't know it was in the parking lot!!!" All I could have done was stumble outside the elevator, and walked up to his door. The door was open, and I walked in, seeing Edgeworth in his chair.
I didn't intend to stalk Mr. Edgeworth back to his place. Rather, I was led there because my Boss wanted me to speak to him about his cases and dealings with the gossip that has been going around about him---and of course for my pleasure.
"Excuse me?" I knocked, peering into the door.
Mr. Edgeworth turned from a paper he was reading by the window, looking at me. "Uh, didn't I just see you?"
I nodded, walking in and shutting the door.
"What do you need?" He asked.
"Well," I explained to Mr. Edgeworth that I was sent by the jury to look into his life further, and bring back any necessary information needed to be provided.
"Is that so?"
"Yes."
"Do you really expect me to discuss the matter with you, over a cup of tea?" Mr. Edgeworth puffed.
I stared a bit intrigued by his sarcasm. "I figured you'd be this way." I smiled.
All he did was glance at me, a bit, worried. "Take a seat." Miles sat in his comfortable chair, turning it to me.
"I'm sorry to bother you on your time, Mr. Edgeworth." I spoke, ashamed.
He sighed, resting his arms on his polished desk. "Let's just get this over with. What do you need to know about me?"
"Just what happened in your case two years ago?"
Edgeworth stared at me, bemused. "I...hope this isn't a waste of time."
I smiled. "This is my choice, Mr. Edgeworth, don't worry about it."
