Over the Edge

I shifted in my bed and my hand felt around for the body that was supposed to be sleeping next to me. My eyes popped open when I felt nothing. I sat up quickly. My eyes narrowed. I wasn't in my bed like I thought I was. I wasn't even in any bed at all. I was laying on the cold hard ground of the Forbidden Forest.

I looked around wildly, knowing who would turn up any second.

"My dear." I heard his cold voice and stood up quickly, turning to face him. My father stood a couple of feet away from me, and he wore a small smile on his face.

"Father," I greeted, stepping up to him and hugging him.

"I tried to contact you earlier."

"I know. I was talking to Ha-Potter." I coughed awkwardly as he analyzed me under his gaze. "The plan was very successful," I continued. "Both Potter and I's names came out of the goblet and so far Dumbledore believes we didn't put our own names in."

"Good, good," he mumbled, staring thoughtfully into the distance. He then focused back in on me. "If I am correct, tomorrow they will take you to go get your wand checked out. From what Crouch Jr. has told me, the interview woman is extremely nosy. You are to try your best to avoid her, understand?" I nodded my head quickly. "Now, the main purpose of this is for you and Crouch Junior to help the boy win the tournament so the Cup will transport him to the graveyard. So tomorrow Crouch Junior is going to urge that bloody half-breed giant to show you and Potter your first task. Dragons--"

My breath got caught in my throat and I choked. "Dragons?!" I gasped. "I have to fight dragons?"

"Yes, yes, it will be quite difficult, but you can do it. You are the daughter of Lord Voldemort and you will not be conquered by a dragon." Once again, all I could do was nod. My hands were beginning to shake. Dragons... "I know Potter will be hesitant to go because he doesn't want to get the half-breed in trouble, but you must convince him to."

"Alright..." I said. "It shouldn't be a problem."

He smiled and placed a hand on my shoulder. "I know it won't. Good luck my dear."

The dream ended so suddenly I gasped and sat up in bed. This time I was actually in my bed, and there was someone next to me. Draco wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me to him, alarmed.

"Are you okay?" he asked. I looked over at him. I could barely see him. Thank Merlin he was pale against the pitch black room. The bed was still covered by the drapes. His eyes were groggy from sleep but were shining with worry as he stared at me and brushed the hair from my sweaty face.

"I'm fine...just a dream," I said, letting out a slow breath. His eyebrows slowly started to raise.

"What was it about?" he asked. I already knew he knew the answer. I gave him a knowing look, before pulling open the drapes softly and peeking out of them. Everyone was asleep, from what I could see, so I closed them back up quickly and started explaining everything to Draco in a voice so quiet that I could barely hear it myself.

"Dragons? They expect you to fight dragons?" he hissed. I nodded. My lip slightly quivered. Draco noticed and his eyes softened. "You're afraid aren't you?" I stared down at my hands and shook my head. He grabbed my chin firmly and forced me to look up at him. "You're afraid, aren't you?"

I stared at him, before my eyes went glassy and I nodded. He pulled me into his chest and I didn't oppose. I snuggled my face into his warm body as he leaned back into the pillows. His arms were wrapped tightly around me. I wanted to cry right there, but I couldn't. I wouldn't. I do not cry.
