*Sigh*

A simple sound
Escapes your lips
Sounding almost like a breath
And then the switch flips.

A sigh is what most seem to label it
But to me, it's something more.
It's a message, clear as day
That shakes me to my core.

"You're not enough," it screams,
Feeling all too true.
"It's all your fault."
Then again, it's nothing new.

A sigh is what it's often called,
But, really, it's an insult,
Causing every good thing in life
To just...halt.

It's an accusation,
One that makes me rethink
The smile on my lips, the red in my cheeks,
Everything.

And to think,
This all started as a simple breath,
A sigh I misunderstood,
Of not hate but content,
Of love and not death.
