The drive was shorter then I had last remembered. I looked ahead to see the train station, Kings Cross, in all its glory. We had parked and me and Ruth followed our parents to get carts for our things. We were all walking towards the middle of platform 9 and 10. When we got there Ruth went in with my dad and after I went in with my mum. We all stood at the platform saying our good-byes then me and Ruth made our way to train.
When we got on the train Ruth leaned in and whispered to me. "I will only stay with you until you have found a place to sit, but not a minute longer..!"
"Ok.. Well.. I love you too.." I said back in my sassy voice I found myself so often using when talking to Ruth. We walked down the corridor until I found a compartment with a girl that had waist length black hair and dark brown eyes. I knew the girl, Eliza McCoy was her name, her mum was friends with mine and so we had met only a few times prior to this specific occasion.
"Hello..? May I sit here with you?" I asked sheepishly as I poked my head through the compartment door.
"Sure!" She said in a friendly voice that I had forgotten she had. "Hey..? Aren't you Veronica Hearst? I think our mums are friends."
"Yes I believe they are. Isn't your name Eliza?" I said this knowing very well that her name was indeed Eliza but, I could not make my first impression as the girl who creepily remembers everyone's names.
"Yes my name is Eliza. Eliza McCoy." She said with an almost sense of pride in her voice.
"Well now that we've established that we know each other's names..." I had paused hoping that she might respond in some way, but all she did was smile and look out the window at all the grey smoke that was passing the window. "Well-" and before I could say anything else the compartment door slide open to show a tall dark haired boy wearing a first year Hogwarts robe.
"Hello! I'm Evan Lexington. Do you mind if I sit with you? All the other compartments are full."
"Of course!" Me and Eliza had said in sync.
"My name is Veronica and this is Eliza." I said toward Evan.
Evan nodded as he came over and sat right across Eliza, next to the window, and next to me. For the next few minutes we didn't say much to each other. We all only looked up to admire the marvellous view that was the muggle world disappearing from sight.Evan had finally pulled his gaze from the view outside to try to spark a conversation between the three of us. "So what house do you two want to be in??"
I was quick to reply in saying "I think Ravenclaw would be very nice, but my family says I could do great in Ravenclaw or Slytherin." And with the mention of Slytherin Eliza sat up where she was sitting and answered Evans question.
"I think I will be in Slytherin and I know everyone thinks it's bad-"
I interrupted here because I wanted Eliza to know that I don't think all Slytherins are bad. "Well I think that those who think all Slytherins are old-fashioned and judgmental."
Eliza seemed pleased that I thought this. Evan simply looked astonishing, yet pleased."Well, not to make you feel like the lone wolf here Eliza but, I was also hoping to be in Ravenclaw.."
"That's ok! At least as a lone wolf I don't have to keep up with everyone."
We all laughed, and as we laughed, I could feel the ice cold tension seem to melt away as we all talked each other's ears off rest of the ride.
