I was expecting my holiday to be quite boring since I had canceled my plans to hang out with Draco, without of course actually telling him because that would require coming up to him and speaking. But, surprisingly my holiday went well, me and Ruth sat in the library together for a whole hour and actually got along! It really was a Christmas miracle! When my mum sent me my presents, I had asked her to send along the things I needed for my friends.I got Eliza a Slytherin necklace, and Evan a book on the first war in the Wizarding World. Since, I knew Evan loved anything history. My mum also picked up the present for Draco because, these were ordered earlier. I got him a Slytherin pin to put on his robe, but since I am not talking to him I will just have to hold on to the gift. My mum sent me, a new pair a navy blue converse, not that I will wear them anytime soon because I like the look of my old ones. She also got me a new potions set, a pillow with a 'V' imprinted on it, and two pairs of navy, knee high, socks.
After the holidays I was more then glad to see Evan and Eliza back. I'm not complaining, I did kinda enjoy some alone time, but it felt great to have my friends back. I had made the decision to not tell Evan or Eliza about what happened with Draco, I didn't want them turning into a big deal when it was really just me, letting Draco walk all over me. I tried my very best to avoid Draco at all cost over the holiday, and it actually did work! The hardest part about the holiday is getting back into classes.
It was a few weeks into classes when one day Evan's curiosity played to my disadvantage. "Hey, Veronica, I've noticed something ever since the holiday."
"And what is that Evan?" I asked totally not thinking of what he could be asking.
"You and Draco haven't spoken a word to each other." Evan's ability to point out the obvious never ceased to amaze me.
"What, yes we have." I said trying to make my argument sound convincing.
"Oh yeah? When?"
"Well, for your information Evan, me and Draco spent the entire holiday hanging out together and the only reason we are not still seeing each other everyday is because we both have other things to do!" Saying this I would now have to make up with Draco, or least stop ignoring him. I was walking alone in the hallway one day after classes and as I turned the corner I saw, out of the corner of my eye, Draco behind me. I thought I might as well stop ignoring him and let the universe do its thing.
"Veronica!!" Draco called as he ran down the hall to catch up to me.
"Oh, um, hi Draco." I said emotionless.
"Veronica, what ever happened to our holiday plans?" Draco was acting like he was unaware of what happened before the holidays.
"Wait, I thought I was 'too clingy' for you." I then picked up my walking pace.
"Veronica, wait! Are you still mad about that?" Draco asked as he caught up with me.
"Oh no! I've completely moved on from the event where you humiliated me and pointed out my biggest insecurity, that I told you in confidence that you wouldn't tell anyone! What if I told all my friends that your a lonely, child with parent issues?! But you're right it does seem a bit ridiculous to stay mad at such a small trouble!" I said sarcastically and then quickly stomped away as I could hear Draco running behind me.
"Wait, Veronica, stop, please, can we at least discuss this?!"
I turned where I had stopped, "Fine Draco. What do you have to say?" I snapped.
"Well, I just want to say, I'm sorry for saying that, and I'm sorry for being such an insensitive friend. It's just that when I'm around some people my name and reputation becomes the top priority. I don't mean for it to and I truly am sorry. I did mean everything I said to you under the tree, about how I value our friendship and if you will forgive me I will try harder not to be such a git."
Draco's apology made me feel slightly better, but I was still doubting giving him another chance. "Draco, I believe you. I know you probably are sorry for what you did. But, I don't know if I can trust you again." Draco's facial expression dropped. "One minute you are so nice to me, then the next you are such a bully! I will forgive you Draco Malfoy, but I will not forget this." And with that I nodded and left towards my room leaving Draco with a puzzled look on his face.
I was still in shock that I actually did that! I actually stood up to The Draco Malfoy. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, which was such a convenience! I thought, bases on our last experience, the second I showed anger, he would yell at me. Which was the point I was trying to make. Alone, he is so much kinder towards me. Then the second someone else comes, he is Draco Malfoy, the Hogwarts bully. I meant what I said to him, I just only hope it didn't ruin too much of our friendship.
