Diagon Alley

It was early August morning. I could hear the distant sounds of my mum calling me and Ruth from downstairs. This morning was unlike any other, I was actually up early! Me, Ruth, and my mum were all getting ready to go to Diagon Alley to get our supplies for Hogwarts.

"Are you ready to go?!" I heard mum yell through the house as she stood in the living room with the jar of floo powder in her hands.

"Yes, I'm coming!" I yelled back as I took two steps at a time down the long staircase and made my way into my living room where my mum and Ruth stood waiting for me. After Ruth had left through our big marble fireplace I walked sheepishly up to the fireplace and throw the floo powder in and yelled "Diagon Alley" as I jumped through the growing light green flames.

I felt myself hit the hard cement ground of Diagon Alley. I looked up to see Ruth already making her way to her feet as she dusted the ashes from her jeans. I heard a thump come from my left and I saw that my mum had just landed beside me. We all got up and pulled ourselves together and my mum led the way Florish & Blotts where we were to get our books for school. I noticed that every single book on the list was written by the same person, Gilderoy Lockhart. I had never actually read any of his other books but, that's why I have Evan. Evan wrote me about all the biographies he had read over the summer. One was indeed, Gilderoy Lockhart. So, I'm sure Evan can explain this man to me.

We had entered the bookshop and there was such a crowd I could barely see the actual books. My mum had offered to stand in line while me and Ruth went to the above area where the crowd wasn't so thick. We were going up the long staircase when I thought I saw someone familiar roaming around but I didn't pay much attention. I heard the door open and a almost complete silence enter the store. I turned to see Harry Potter. Almost as soon as he walked in he was on the stage with Mr. Lockhart taking a picture for the front page of The Daily Profit. As he was coming out of the crowd, with a short red haired man, I noticed the person I thought I recognized zoom down the stairs. It was Draco Malfoy. I noticed he was headed down towards Potter. Before I could get over to look over the rail I heard the sound of bookshelves falling. When I did finally get a look at what was going on I noticed the red haired man and Draco's father had gotten into a fight and were shoving down bookcases. Me and Ruth rushed down the stairs to see the action. But, before I could say something to Draco, my mum had found me and Ruth and she pulled us out of the store.

My mum was telling Ruth about how, before we left the store, she was just called for an emergency at the Ministry, and how Ruth was in charge and she then handed Ruth the list of things we needed. My mum gave us both hugs and kisses and left.

"Ruth, do you think we could wait here for Draco? I want to ask him want just happened in there." I asked Ruth.

"Sure, I guess. But, only because I want to know too." Ruth said trying to sound adult-ish.

We waited only a few minutes when both of the Malfoy's came out if the shop. Draco was being dragged by his father, who was walking very quickly. I quickly ran up to the two of them before they had a chance the leave.

"Hello, Draco!" I said as I stopped right in front of Draco.

"Oh, Veronica. Hello." Draco said, looking down and not making eye contact with me.

"Draco, are you going to introduce me to your friend??" Draco's Father asked almost as if he was upset at Draco for some reason.

"Oh, yes. Father, this is Hearst, Veronica Hearst." Draco said still avoiding eye contact.

I could see that Draco was probably going to get in trouble for something that he did as soon as I left so I made a very drastic move and said. "Well, I came over here to see if Draco wanted to join me and my sister today as we go gather the rest of our things." As I said these things Draco looked up at me wide eyed.
