I was having a beautiful dream about my future at Hogwarts, when I woke up almost immediately as I felt my face hit the floor of my room. I normally get up and flop on the floor on purpose, but this time I had not. I stood up quickly as I was slowing remembering where I was. I then looked at the clock and noticed that my first class, transfiguration, began in about 15 minutes. I didn't have time for breakfast, but that's fine I normally didn't eat breakfast anyways.
I had put on a light blue button up shirt, a beige skirt, and my classic navy converse. I then put my Ravenclaw robe over my outfit and brushed my hair and teeth. I rushed down the stairs, trying not to fall on my face, and trying to keep my school bag from sliding off my shoulder. I left the tower and began to run through the halls. I saw someone walking towards where I thought I needed to go, so I figured why not catch up with them. I slowed my running and as I got closer the the person I realized it was none other then Draco Malfoy.
I figured this would be a great time to get to know this boy better as a human being, and also help me get to class. "Um, hello, excuse me? Do you know where the transfiguration class is at?"
"Oh it's you, Hearst! Well, of course I know where the class is! But please do tell me why I should tell you?!" He said with a disgusted look on his pale, smooth, face. I knew that it was not smart to already have enemies on the first day, so I thought I would be the bigger person and say sorry to him and hopefully be friends.
"Look, I'm very sorry about mocking your name yesterday. I didn't realize how important it was to you." I noticed as I was saying this Malfoy's face seemed less tense. His face looked as if he had never heard someone say sorry before. "So, do you think you could forgive me? And maybe we could be friends??" I then hoped that he could find it in his heart to forgive the stupid remark, that he took so personal.
"Well, I guess you were only speaking truth so I really shouldn't be mad at you. After all I suppose I am the Prince of Slytherin." I giggled quietly at this, because, well, the amount of self confidence this child had was astounding. He seemed to be pleased with my apologies so at this point I stretched out my hand and asked, "Friends?"
Malfoy then took my hand and gave a firm quick handshake that was accompanied by him saying, slightly bitter, "Yeah, friends, I guess." I smiled at this. I already had friends and it was only day one!
Then we began to walk to class. "But," Malfoy continued "if we are to be friends you must refer to me as 'Draco' since we are friends we now are on 'first name terms' and I shall refer to you as Veronica"
"First name terms?" I asked slightly puzzled.
"I don't make the rules, Veronica." I nodded my head, still not having my question answered, we continued to walk until we had reached the class room.
We had reached the transfiguration classroom. "I do hope that I haven't made you late for your class." I said just then becoming aware of the fact that I might had just made Draco late.
"Wow and you're in Ravenclaw? My first class is transfiguration. That's why I was walking here!" Draco said with a tone in his voice that could make Dumbledore feel stupid.
"Oh... Right.. Sorry.." I figured that was all the Draco Malfoy time I needed right now. I looked around the room to find Evan already sitting with one of his friends and I then noticed Eliza sitting alone. This was kinda a good thing because if she had been sitting with someone I would have had to possibly sit with Malfoy.
I walked over to the desk and sat down. Eliza's head turned quickly as soon as she noticed the chair moving. "Oh, hey Veronica! Why are you so late?" She asked with a mix of excitement and curiosity.
"Well, I'm not really a morning person and I overslept. Then on the way to class I stopped to talk with Draco Malfoy."
"Wait? What? Why?"
"Well, he was there and I didn't think it was wise to have enemies so soon in the semester so I apologized to him and I guess we're friends now. Or at least on first name terms whatever that means..." I mumbled the last part but I had the sense Eliza still heard it.
"Oh well that was probably a good idea. You really don't wanna be on any Malfoy's bad side."
"Yes, you are very right there." As soon as these words had escaped my lips the black cat, that had been calmly purring around the Professors desk, had turned into Professor McGonagall.
This was the first time I had seen this sort of thing so I was quite amazed yet intrigued. After that the Professor went on to teach us our first lesson. It was very fascinating to me how something can be a pile of parchment then in one second in turn into a bowl of chicken soup. Even though I had been raised in the wizarding world, and I read almost every book I could before I arrived here at Hogwarts, the wizarding world still felt so new and different to me.
Through the rest of the day nothing totally awesome happened. Or at least I'm guessing it didn't, I believe that if something did I would have remembered it.
That night dinner was just as good as any of the two meals I had already had at Hogwarts. I had roasted potatoes, some kind of casserole, and for dessert, chocolate cake. That night none of my roommates spoke to each other. We were all much to tired and full to make out any actual words. That night I fell asleep almost as quickly and as soundly as the night before. I choose to believe that it was the bed. I believe it was enchanted to fit your sleep needs perfectly. If this was true, it definitely did its job.
