It was already Halloween at Hogwarts and, Halloween was never my favorite holiday, but Hogwarts somehow made it fun! The great hall was decorated with such decorations it looked like Halloween town had invaded. Me and Evan were enjoying each others company in the great hall when a storm of students began to, all at once, exit the hall. Me and Evan didn't like not knowing what was happening so we joined them.
Every student was pushing and shoving to get to the front of the group. When me and Evan finally did get to the front, we saw a horrifying message on the wall. "Enemies of the heir, beware" Near the message was the caretakers cat, and right on the scene of the crime, stood Harry Potter and his two friends. It seemed every time something bad happened it was always them. The message seemed to be written in blood. It really ruined the mood for the party. I then saw Draco come through the group and say.. the M word... (mud-blood) Now the mood was definitely ruined. I didn't feel like going to sleep but I surly didn't want to go back to the party. So, me and Evan decided to go hang out in the library.
"Hey, Evan, what do you suppose that message meant?" I asked Evan as we were walking into the library.
"I dunno, but I suppose we could possibly find something in the restricted area in the library!" Evan said making his way toward that part in the library.
"Wait, don't you have to have some sort of pass to get in there?" I asked catching up with Evan.
"Yes, and it's a good thing that I'm on first name terms with the librarian!" Evan said as if he were talking about his best friend. I followed him in where he showed his pass and went further into the stacks of books. Me and Evan stayed out past 10 that night looking for clues on the curious subject. We had to sneak back to our rooms trying not to be noticed by Filch. After all those long hours we didn't find anything. But, Evan did find a whole new series of books written by Lockhart.
"Oh, Evan that reminds me, Lockhart, what's your opinion on him?" I asked Evan as we plopped down in a couch in the Ravenclaw common room.
Evan hopped up from the couch and began to pace the room. "Ugh, that bloat! He brings such shame to the face of Ravenclaw! He is an arrogant, conceited, piece of rubbish!" Evan spat as he calmed himself back to sitting on the couch.
"You know Evan, I couldn't agree more." I said as I nodded in satisfactory towards Evan.
"What do you think of him?" Evan asked more calmly.
"Like you, I think he is an absolute disgrace to the Ravenclaw house!" I said. "And, do you even believe all those things he has written about?"
Evan began to do a fake laugh. "Veronica, you think I'm that stupid? Of course I don't! Let me tell you this, a few years back I was reading some biography about a man by the name of Benjamin Stickler, who went on an international journey to America. It really was a fantastic read, I do recommend-"
"Evan, the point please?!" I said interrupting Evan tale about biographies.
"Oh, yes, right. Well I was reading one of Lockhart's 'adventures' and, you won't believe this, but it seemed a lot like Sticklers story!" Once Evan finally reached the point I saw what he was implying.
I then said sitting up in my seat a little, "Wait really?" Evan nodded his head. "So that's literally proof that he's a good for nothing fraud!" Evan just sat back on the couch in satisfaction and continued nodding his head. After we finished ranting about Lockhart, me and Evan said our good nights and went our separate ways to our rooms. As soon as my head hit the pillow in my silent room, I fell asleep.
It had been a couple of weeks since the last message was left. Every since then, muggle-borns all over the school were being attacked. It was an ongoing mystery that was never solved. One night, me, Eliza, and Evan were walking around the castle when we saw a few house elfs scrubbing the wall. There were a few words left that they had not gotten to yet and it read, "Secrets has been opened." Evan was immediately thrown into a confused trance.
"Um.. excuse me..?" I said walking towards the house elfs as Eliza was watching Evan's eyes growing bigger with questions. "What was the fully written message on the wall?"
"Kenny is not allowed to speak of it to Hogwarts students." The house elf said in it incredibly high pitched voice.
"Oh, but, Kenny, I have to know. I have to write a essay on the mysteries of Hogwarts and I need this for my paper." I said hoping Kenny would buy the stupid story I just made up.
"Oh, well, I suppose I could tell Hogwarts student..." Kenny paused and looked around, then continued. "It said 'The Chamber of Secrets has been opened" and it was written in blood miss. Now please don't tell headmaster I told you!? Kenny would be in such trouble! Oh, Kenny said too much-"
I didn't feel like listening to the house elf continue to harass itself, so I interrupted, "Thank you Kenny." I turned back to Eliza and Evan as we all exchanged nervous looks and headed toward to library. Evan got us a pass into the restricted area and we began looking for anything about the Chamber of Secrets.
"Have you two found anything?" Eliza asked coming out from be hide a stack of books.
"Nothing." Me and Evan said in sync.
"Wait, what are we doing?" I said looking at Evan and Eliza. "Why would Hogwarts have a book about bloody messages on walls? They obviously don't want students to know about it, so why would there be anything about it in the library?" We all three came to an agreement that what we were doing was pointless, so we decided we would help Evan on his quest to find out what he saw driving the carriages.
We looked around the library for almost half an hour until we found a book that had a picture of what Evan said he saw.
"It says here they are called thestrals, they are invisible horse like creatures. They can only be seen by people..." Eliza paused.
"People who what!?" Evan asked quickly to Eliza from across the table we were sitting at. Eliza then handed me the book and it said, "people who have witnessed death." This meant Evan, my bestest best friend, had seen someone die. I have never wanted someone to not read something in my whole life. I couldn't bear the thought of Evan being reminded of such things.
"Oh just give me the book!" Evan jumped up and snatched the book away from me and Eliza. We watched his eyes skim over the page and when his eyes meet the bottom of the page he dropped down into his chair. There was a long silence that lasted what felt like years. He never looked up from the ground, and when he did finally get up he grabbed his stuff and left the library. Me and Eliza stayed silent until we were sure that Evan had left.
"I don't even know what to say." Said Eliza quietly.
"What can you say to this type of thing?." I asked back to her.
"Who do you think it was?" Eliza asked.
"I have no idea..." I said not making eye contact. "We can ask Evan about it later, I don't think he wants to talk about it now..." Eliza nodded her head as we gathered our things and left.
As we approached the dungeons, me and Eliza said good night and went our own way. As I was walking by myself I was letting my imagination run wild about Evan's past. He always seemed so happy, I would have never thought that such a thing happened.
