The Christmas Miracle (part 1)

It had now become months since Evan and Eliza had spoken. I had decided things were getting out of control and it was time to take matters into my own hands.

Christmas was drawing near, so the students who were planning on staying for the holidays were starting the sign up. I had decided to stay along with my two sisters. Anyways, that information is slightly beyond the point. I had constructed a plan, the most cliché plan you could think of. I was going to find a way to force my two best friends to make up. I realized if I was going to force two other people to make up, I might need to make up with someone first. Draco Malfoy. I hadn't really talked to him since Halloween. Besides the occasional waves in the hallways that are followed by, whoever didn't wave, turning their back.

It was December 7th, about a week before everyone who was staying had to be signed up. I was in the Ravenclaw common room, which, in case you didn't know, provides the best view that Hogwarts has. Anyways, I was looking outside trying to see if I spotted Draco anywhere outside before I went on some goose chase trying to find him inside. I doubted that he would be outside in the snow but I still thought I would look. I didn't see him but I did see Crabbe and Goyle coming into the castle. They must have been running some errands for Draco. I thought, if I could get down the stairs in time, I would find them and follow them to Draco. I know, that sounds creepy, but drastic times call for drastic measures. And trust me, for a 13 year old, this was as drastic as things got. I rushed down the stairs as fast as my short legs could carry me. I saw that they went through the north entrance. Which lucky for me, was close to Ravenclaw tower. I was running through the halls when I thought I heard someone else behind me. I slowed my pace and turned to look back. As I was walking backwards, I walked right into someone and they grabbed my shoulders to steady me. I turned around to see Draco smirking down at me. Once I fully forced myself to soak in the situation, I shoved Draco's hands of my shoulders.

"Well Veronica, even when you're mad at me, you can't seem to stay away." Draco said smirking.

"Yes I just couldn't stay away during that past month of us not talking!" I snapped.

"Well I'm glad you've realized it too."

"Realized what?"

"We haven't talked in a really long time. I was my usual jerky self, and you reacted the only way expected. I'm sorry." I felt the frustration in my stomach calm as I heard him apologize. The nice Draco was really starting to grow on me, the mean one, not so much.

"Draco, why can't you be this nice to me all the time? You say that we're friends, yet I feel like I'm just some girl that you copy homework answers from." I said in all honesty.

"What, no, you're not, I promise you that." A sense of concerning compassion arose in Draco's voice. Something I have never heard from him. "You're my friend. Actually, one of my really good friends."

"You have a really funny way of showing it." I said coldly to Draco. "How many times are we going to have to have this conversation? I feel like we can't go a week without you somehow humiliating me." Guessing from his shocked and slight remorseful look, Draco seemed to not understand how peoples feeling work.

"Veronica, I'm so sorry, I know I'm a jerk. I try not to be, I really do, but I-" Draco stopped himself and pulled his words together. "please, if there is anything I can do to make it up to you-"

"Well there is this one thing I really need help with..."

"Ok, sure, I'll help you with it, just please can we go back to being friends?"
