Quidditch World Cup (part one)

My summer break was mostly spent at my house. I occasionally had Eliza and Draco over. Which was the only interesting part of my summer. Evan went to visit Scotland and was gone for a month so we didn't hang out that much. I did however run into him when I was in Diagon Alley in the beginning of the summer with Draco. That one occasion was the only time this summer that I wasn't third-wheeling with Draco and Eliza. Take the Quidditch World Cup for example. Since I'm not that into Quidditch Draco and Eliza spent the whole time ranting and raving about the game. Meanwhile, I had a splendid conversation about muggle sports with the guy at the concessions stand.

Initially, it was going to to be just me and Draco going with his family. But, Eliza happen to be hanging out with us when Draco asked about it. So naturally, since by that point Eliza was his friend as well, he invited her. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about this, but I do wish that I didn't feel like such a third wheel with them. Another example, they always complain about annoying kids in Slytherin, and I'm just casually sit there like the awkward Ravenclaw that I am.

Anyways, back to the world cup! Draco's parents got the best seats that money could buy, all the souvenirs we wanted, and even got me and Eliza our own tent. The night before the game, all of Draco's family met in the largest tent. Which was Draco's and his parents tent, of course. I thought I knew all about being the third wheel; being out of place. Then me and Eliza had to sit with rich strangers for 3 hours. We both decided to wear a dress with the colour of our house. I had a mid-length navy dress and Eliza had a long, dark green dress.

Eliza was talking to Annabel, Draco's cousin twice removed. I was sitting at one of the tables, eating my pie, when Draco came and sat next to me.

"Veronica, why aren't you out making friends with my millions of relatives?" Draco said as he gently pulled out the chair next to me and sat down.

"I have six chapters left and I set a goal to finish this book before school starts." I said not lifting my eyes from my page.

"I've always admired your determination," I laid my book down on the table, put my bookmark in, and closed my book. "Woah, what happen to the goal?"

"If this conversation started with you being nice, then I know it's going to be far more interesting than my goal."

Draco laughed. "Okay first, I'm not where I need to be but can we at least notice my progress?"

"Yeah, I know and I'm very proud." I said sappy and sarcastically. Draco smiled. "I guess it will just take getting used to."

Draco nodded as I ate my pie. We sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. I would look at Draco until he noticed, and Draco would look at me until I noticed. "Anyway, where is Eliza?"

"Oh, um, I think she is with Annabel."

"Well I'm glad one of friends is having fun."

"What? I'm having the time of my life!" I lied. "This pie is very lovely" That however wasn't a lie.

"Veronica, I can see it in your face, the pie is the only thing your enjoying." I smiled awkwardly. I couldn't argue, but I didn't want to agree. Draco seemed like he was going to say something back. Then his interest was given to the radio that was echoing music all over the whole tent.

A slow song began to play, people around the room were finding someone to dance with. I looked down at the floor to avoid making eye contact with anyone. I heard Draco's chair move. I looked up and saw Draco standing in front of me.

"Dance with me?" He stretched out his hand and smiled.

I figured that that would be better than risking the possibility that a stranger asking me. "Sure." I laid my hand in Draco's and he guided me to our dancing destination.

"You can dance right?" Draco asked, as he ran his free hand threw his hair.

"Of course, can you?"

"I wouldn't have asked if I couldn't." Draco wrapped his hand around my waist and stepped closer. I laid my hand on the back of his neck and we held our other hands out slightly. Draco twirled me out and back in. As we were swaying it was impossible not to make eye contact and I never noticed the swirl of gray and blue in Draco's eyes. "You know, you're actually not bad at this"

"You seemed surprised?" As we continued to sway I tried to make conversation. "So, how did you learn to dance?"

"My mother made sure I learned almost as soon as I could walk. What about you?" He adjusted his hand on my waist and twirled me again.

When I twirled back to Draco we were standing closer together. "Before my father got a job at the ministry, he used to take me and my sisters to father-daughter dances."

"You don't still?"

"I wish, but 'life is too valuable to waste it on such silly things'. I don't only miss the time spent with my family but the dancing was enjoyable as well."

"Well," I could hear the song coming to an end. There was a part of me that never wanted it to, but I banished that feeling as soon as it arrived. "If you ever miss the dancing to much, we can do this again sometime."

I smiled. "I would like that." The song ended along with my exuberant feelings. Luckily, I wasn't the only one. I looked around and noticed most people had already left.

We were walking back to our table when, "Hey!" Eliza said quickly as I jumped and Draco laughed. "You ready to go?" I nodded.

"I'll walk with you to your tent." Draco said as he walked with us next door to our tent.

"Goodnight Draco, thanks for the dance." I said hoping that my face wasn't showing the warmth I was feeling inside. I was walking through the door when I noticed Eliza wasn't behind me. "Eliza?" I asked.

"Oh, um, I actually need to tell Eliza something. Alone." Draco didn't make eye contact as he slowly muttered his words.

"Oh, ok.." I said as I tried to leave before my stomach decided to fall. Draco and Eliza always talked alone but I had never had a strong feeling like this about it. It was a new feeling. I lied to myself saying that the pie wasn't that good. But deep down I knew what this was. It was no bad pie, it was indeed jealousy.
