a very eventful first day

It was the first day of my third year at Hogwarts, and I had already realized something. Everyone who I noticed or knew from last year has somehow changed. I believe it was all of us wanting to show how old we were. It seemed as the mature thing to do at the time.

The first day back, the homework was a lot harder then I expected. But, through all the hard work, I still have managed to get outstanding grades. Of course, my parents didn't notice. All they notice is how successful Ruth is and how adorable Helen and Andie are. I am practically the forgotten child. Me and Ruth are only nine months apart, yet everyone sees me as years younger. I think it's because I am her little sister so everyone expects me to be years younger. Also, while we are on this topic, people think it's totally 'okay!' to compare me and Ruth. Yes, I know it is normal for sisters to be compared, but I feel like it's so much harder then how people describe it. If I get in trouble, the first sentence to come out my mums mouth is, 'look at how Ruth is doing it', or 'Ruth never did this'. Well, news flash mum, I'm not Ruth! This truly is the biggest struggle in my life. I don't even know anyone who would truly understand this problem. All of my friends are an only child. I would normally talk to Evan about these sorts of things, but I don't think it would be right to complain about siblings to him. I know Jane and Marsha have siblings, but I'm not that close to them. I feel like I have the worst of both parts. I have the responsibility of being an older sister and the struggles of a younger sister.

Anyways, the homework piled up as the day went on. I never really minded homework before, but now it seemed homework was all I had time for. The day dragged on and the only the school related event that I didn't mind was, potions. Most people say that Snape is too mean of a teacher. But, that's only true in your a Gryffindor. He treats the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws as equals, obviously he shows favoritism to the Slytherins, and, in all honesty, treats the Gryffindors very unfairly. Eliza confirmed, the easiest subject for her is potions. Not only because she is actually decent in the class, but also because Snape show lots of favoritism to the Slytherins. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I can imagine the perks of it, especially if potions is your weakest subject. But, it's not just Snape who does it, Mr. Flitwick gives the Ravenclaws bonus points if we earn over 10 points for our house. So, as I said earlier, the Head of Houses showing favoritism to their house is nothing but commonly expected.

On a different note, I also like the subject History of Magic. The teacher however, not so much. It is such a good subject being ruined by a boring teacher. So, since me and Evan feel the same way towards the class, we sometimes spend evenings in the library finding books on the subject and teaching ourselves. I think me and Evan are so much more of an enjoyable duo then Professor Binns is. During the study plan, that we still use from two years ago, me and Evan tried to ask Eliza if she wanted to join us. But, she says that she doesn't like the subject enough to learn more about it.

The third years had to pick at least two extra subjects to study. As if our core classes weren't enough. I heard that Care of Magical creatures was getting a new teacher. I wasn't really looking forward to the class itself, but it seemed better then some of the other classes. I told the above statement to Evan today at breakfast and he told me all that he knew about the new teacher. Apparently, he was the man who lead the first years to the boats a couple years back. The other class that I choose was muggle studies. Now, I will admit, muggles are a ridiculous waste of time, but, I like learning about new cultures so I thought 'why not'. Also, I heard that later it would be required so why not take it now.

Now that I've mentioned the earlier part of my day, I think I should talk about what happened later that day. Considering it was quite an eventful day. I was sitting outside, under the tree that I always sit under, when I saw Evan coming towards the tree.
