tonight was the night josh had arranged to meet tyler's father who had been away on a business trip ever since they stared dating.
and josh couldn't have been more nervous.
"just breathe, baby. he'll love you," tyler assure his boyfriend. "it's just he's quite protective over me and my siblings, e-especially me since i'm the youngest. but just be yourself, ok? it's impossible not to fall in love with you."
"o-ok," josh said shakily, hanging up the phone and exiting his car. it would be just mr. joseph and him for the meeting, tyler having gone to help kelly with some errands.
joshua knocked on the door, trying his best to look confident, though mr. joseph could immediately see right through him.
"so. you must be joshua," mr. joseph grinned, extending his hand out to the boy.
"y-yes sir. pleasure to meet you," josh said, firmly shaking the man's hand.
"and you as well," the man said. "please, come in."
josh nodded and followed tyler's father inside, sitting down across from him at the kitchen table.
"can i get you something to drink? beer?" mr. joseph offered casually.
"o-oh, no sir. i'm not of age," josh replied. "thank you, though."
mr. joseph grinned. "congrats, joshua. you've already passed the first test."
the two sat and talked for a while, first about who josh was and what he enjoyed doing, but eventually, they got more into the things about him and tyler.
"so, joshua. what are your intentions with tyler?"
"well, t-to make him feel loved and confident are my first priorities. he doesn't seem as if he believes he's worth being loved, and he always talk negatively about himself. he really is lovely, and i want to help him realize that," josh said.
mr. joseph smiled and nodded approvingly. "and what are your plans with him in the long-term?"
"oh, wow. um... well, since it's really early in the relationship, i-i see it as ok to say that i'm not quite sure yet. of course as we get more serious and our relationship progresses, it will become more necessary that not only i, but also tyler know where we want to end up."
"and do you really believe you'll be able to treat tyler the way he deserves to be treated? because with one wrong move, he can break. he is incredibly fragile, still coming out of his depression. and i feel i should let you know that if you do anything to harm tyler emotionally or physically, you will not be allowed to see or communicate with him."
"oh, yes sir. i couldn't dream of hurting him. and if i did, i wouldn't allow myself to be near him. he doesn't deserve to be surrounded by people that aren't going to treat him with the love and respect and care he deserves to be treated with," josh said.
"i'm not going to lie to you, joshua. some of the things he says... they're frightening. terrifying, being honest. the things he sings about, the way he acts, everything. and even with medications and therapy, nothing benefited him. though since you've come around, everything has stopped. almost completely. it truly is remarkable," mr. joseph said. "and if you truly do love and care about tyler, i'd love seeing you stick around."
josh smiled widely and nodded. "t-thank you, mr. joseph. it was great getting to talk to you," josh said as they walked to the front door.
"please, call me chris," the man grinned.
josh smiled and nodded, shaking chris's hand one more time before exiting the home.
"and joshua?"
"yes sir?"
"make sure to let tyler take you out sometimes and compliment you," chris smiled. "he's always dreamed of getting to do that with someone."
josh blushed and nodded, smiling before getting in the car and driving home, excited to meet his boyfriend there for their nightly cuddling and kissing time.
"love you, jishwa," tyler smiled up at his boyfriend as they snuggled on the couch.
josh pressed a long, soft kiss against tyler's lips, pulling back with a grin. "love you too, ty. love you too."
