chapter 10: making up

"dude why don't you just ask him? he'd be so easy to fuck," brendon said as they walked out of english class.

"first off, i wouldn't fuck him. neither of us have any interest in having sex like that. and second, i don't think he's ready. and i don't have any issue with that," josh said.

"so you're not the 'fucking kind,' is what you're saying?"

"exactly. and neither is he."

"dude, you two are the only virgins left in school. you're ruining your reputation."

"oh, yeah, because my reputation is more important than my boyfriend," josh said, rolling his eyes.

"i'm just saying. you need to hurry up with it."

"we're probably gonna wait till we're married," josh shrugged. "or at least till we're engaged."

brendon laughed. "seriously? that's what's on your mind? getting married?"

josh stopped walking and gave a confused look. "yeah? so? we aren't planning on just having sex until we get tired of everybody like the rest of the school is."

"well maybe you aren't."

"what's that supposed to mean?"

"did you ever think maybe you're the only one in the relationship that doesn't want that?"

josh quickly shook his head. "no, i know he's the same way. he told me."

brendon shrugged. "people lie, josh."

"but tyler doesn't."

though now, the doubt was in the back of josh's mind.

it had been three days since tyler and josh talked, and tyler was getting worried. every time tyler would call, it would go to voicemail. and tyler left several.

"hey, jishwa. i miss you! i hope you're doing ok. if you aren't feeling well, you've gotta tell me, ok? i'll be more than happy to come over and cuddle with you. i love you, handsome."

eight hours later

"it's me again, baby. i'm starting to get a little worried. we haven't talked for a couple days. i really miss you. i love you, joshua."

the next morning

"i hope i didn't say something, josh. if i did, i'm really really sorry. please just tell me what i did and i promise i'll fix it. i love you and i'm so so so sorry, josh."

and that was the last time he called.

or texted.

or even tried to communicate with him.

one week later

incoming call from: joshua<3

"i'm sorry, but tyler joseph is not available right now. after the beep, leave him a message." beep!

"ty, baby? i'm so sorry i didn't call back. brendon just said some stuff that made me really start thinking, but then i realized you'd never, ever lie. you're too sweet to do that. you didn't do anything, honey. i promise. and i know you start feeling guilty easily, and i should have never, ever done that. god, i'm such a bad boyfriend. please, just call me back, tyler. i love you. more than anything," josh said sadly, sniffling before hanging up the call.
