The next morning, Samantha, Judith and Merrilee woke up. To their shock and dismay, they noticed that Thorin and Company had already left! Samantha panicked. She tried to stay calm for her nieces, but she couldn't. And she also felt very angry. How could Thorin do this to her? To leave her behind?! How could he just walk away from her like this? "What are we going to do, Aunt Sam? They left us!" cried out Merrilee. Merrilee felt heartbroken at this as well. She didn't understand why the dwarves would just leave them, without saying a word, or even discussing it with them first. "Just stay calm! We must find Lord Elrond, or someone who can help us." said Samantha, calmly. Samantha felt her head starting to pound from the distress. Of all the despictable things Thorin had done when she first met him, this was the worst thing he had ever done. Samantha led her nieces out of the room, and they went to search for Lord Elrond. They shortly found him in his main chamber. Luckily, Gandalf was also there. When the women entered, the Elf Lord and Wizard looked at them with surprised looks. "Samantha! Why are you still here? Why aren't you with the others?" asked Gandalf, and a concerned look appeared on his features. Tears streamed down Samantha eyes. "They left us! Without saying a word, they just took off and left us, Gandalf." sobbed Samantha. Anger clouded over Gandalf.
"I take it to great authority Thorin had decided of this?" asked Elrond gravely. "I don't know. I spoken to him last night about my part in the company, and he seemed okay with it then!" said Samantha. "Don't you worry, Sam. We're going to catch up with the company. And I'm going to have a bone to pick with that stubborn arrogant dwarf." said Gandalf. Samantha looked at Gandalf in amazement. This is the first time she ever saw Gandalf this angry, and indeed, he was very angry. "I specifically made an agreement with Thorin you would be helping him, and he agreed on it! How dare he leave you three behind like this? Come, we better go, so we can catch up with them." said Gandalf. After the wizard bid his farewells with Elrond, Gandalf was about to leave with the ladies. "Gandalf, wait! Saruman, still wants to have a word with you before you go." said Elrond. Gandalf rolled his eyes an then he turned to Samantha and her nieces. "Go and leave. It isn't too late for you to catch up with them. I know they haven't reached the Misty Mountains yet! Go quickly! I will meet up with all of you later!" said Gandalf. The women nodded and they left.
During their trip, Samantha had remained quiet the whole time. Unusually quiet. Judith and Merrilee knew that their Aunt is very upset. Especially at Thorin. Samantha couldn't understand what had possessed Thorin to leave her and her niece behind like that. It had been two days since the women been out on the road. They hoped they would catch up with the others soon. Night fall came, and Merrilee took notice a light ahead of them, like someone had set up camp. "We should be careful. It could be goblins or orcs camping." warned Samantha. "But Aunt Sam! It would be our company!" said Merrilee. "Lets all three approach the site together." said Samantha. The three of them began to walk towards the light. Suddenly, they recognized a figure standing in front of the campsite, holding a axe in his hand. It was Dwalin. "Who goes there? You better not be no Orc!" shouted Dwalin. "No, Master Dwalin. Its us, Sam, Merrilee, Judith!" said Samantha. "SAM! Its so good to see you! I'm so glad you came back!" smiled the bald dwarf, and he hugged Samantha. Dwalin moved closer to Samantha's ear. "Thorin was wrong for leaving you behind like that. He had no right to leave you behind." said Dwalin. "I know. And I'm very upset about it. Why didn't you question him about this?" said Samantha, with a look of hurt in her eyes.
"Miss Williams, I wouldn't question my own leader ,and King. I never had questioned him as long as I known him." said Dwalin gravely. "Where is he?" asked Samantha. "He is about to take his turn on watch." replied Dwalin. "Merrilee, Judith, you go and sit with the others." said Samantha. As they entered the campsite, the dwarves cheered when they saw the William's return. "Judith, Merrilee! Sam! You're back! Its good to see you back!" cheered FIli and Kili together. Fili and Kili ran to Judith and Merrilee hugging them. Thorin scowled. He was determined to leave the Williams behind for their own safety. Thorin angriliy approached Samantha. "What in the hell are you thinking?! Why did you return to us?" snapped Thorin. "No, I like to know why you left us!" snapped Samantha. "I left you behind because I have my reasons! The road is going to become extremely dangerous. I'm just looking out for your own safety." said Thorin. "I cannot believe I'm hearing this, Thorin Oakenshield! Don't you realize whom I am related too? You really think I cannot defend myself, considering I'm the daughter and niece of two members of the Istari?!" shouted Samantha. "A woman has no place in the wild, nor hobbits. I will not risk this quest for any of you!" scowled Thorin. A look of hurt and anger clouded Samantha's features. "You son of a bitch!" screamed Samantha, and she slapped Thorin in the face, and marched away from him, tears streaming down her face. "Sam--!" began Balin. "I need to be left alone Balin!" snapped Samantha, as she walked away.
