Hours later, you ended up sitting in a chair in a dark office. You had no idea where you were in New York - and you knew the people you were with would keep you alive so long as you worked with them.
They kept you for so long you began to believe someone would come looking for you (although no one would) and you half expected someone to bust through the tall, metal doors behind you and rescue you. Your uncle, the cops, Spider-Boy... anyone. You silently prayed.
"Listen," Hades said, his New Yorker accent strong, "you know the Spider-Man better than anybody we've seen around here."
You furrowed your eyebrows. That wasn't true; Aunt May and Ned knew him longer and definitely were closer.
He ignored your look and continued on. "I can't give you the whole elaborate plan we've got goin' on here, sweetheart, but it starts with Peter Parker and it ends with Tony Stark. At the end of the day, we need 'em both dead."
"Then just kill Tony Stark," you said, fear sparking in your heart at the mention of Peter dying. "People take shots at him all the time."
"But none of them succeed, and I don't have any special powers to help me here! I do have a special plan for him though. It'll be fun to test out on our very own Spider...ling." He smiled sinisterly. "And I know what you're thinking, babe. How can I mean that much to the kid? Well, let me assure you, we have thrown curveball after curveball and it seems that we haven't... been throwing the right curves at him," he said, moving his hands close to your sides. You scoffed and looked away, swallowing away the tight feeling in your throat.
"I don't want any part of this," you said tiredly.
"I know you don't, babe," he said, leaning forward and taking your face in his hand. He pouted and squeezed your chin. "But just do what I ask, find the boy's weakness, and I'll give you what you crave most in the entire cosmos!" He leaned in close, lifting a lock of hair from your ear. You cringed and shuddered away from him, his tobacco smelling breath turning your stomach. "Your freedom."
Your shoulders slumped in defeat. "Fine. I'll do it."
...
You were dropped off in front of your apartment. Your first thought, of course, was to run to the cops or to Peter and tell him, but Hades promised he wasn't too far and he had an eye on everything. The words gave you chills and you believed him.
You tried to calm down as you walked into your bedroom, changed into pajamas, and pulled a blanket over your head. No matter what you did, you felt unsafe. You tossed and turned all night, crying whenever you remembered the stench of his breath and the coldness of his words.
You had to do it - do whatever he asked - in order to survive.
...
Peter shut his locker, yawning loudly. At the end he blinked, pinching the bridge of his nose. Ned was at his side, gushing about his perfect grade in Chemistry; something he had studied hard for.
"Dude, you are not as pumped about this as you should be," Ned said.
"Sorry," Peter mumbled. "Late night."
"Ooh... anything cool happen? New villain, maybe?"
"No," Peter said. "Oh! But ___ found out I was Spider-Man."
