The breeze swept up your hair, strands tickling your cheeks until you reached up with shaky fingers and pulled them away. You stared at Peter, unable to comprehend what was happening.

Was he really asking? Was this real?

One look at his eyes and your knees were weak and your soul was happy. It was real.

It was finally happening, but it was different than you'd thought it'd be.

It was silent until Peter spoke again.

"I know," he said. "I know this is stupid. I know I'm stupid. But something changed and I'm sorry it didn't change sooner, but it changed now and that's what matters, I think." He licked his lips nervously. "I mean, I like you now. A lot."

Every part of you wanted to say yes. Your heartbeat was thundering. Peter could probably hear it with his inhuman hearing or whatever, but he didn't say anything.

The yes was on the tip of your tongue, ready to fly out of your lips, but you stopped it with the memory of his face when he found out that you liked him.

Dread replaced the excitement.

"What do you want me to say?" you asked, voice much fainter than you'd wanted it to be. His shoulders slumped. "Do you know how awful it is for your secret to be found out and for people close to you to suddenly see you differently? I mean-" You broke off, looking away for a moment. "When you found out that I liked you, Peter, you hurt me."

A gasping sound, soft and full of pain, burst out of his lips. He nodded. "I know. ___, I suck. But... go to homecoming with me, ____, and I'll prove myself. I want you to be happy and I want to be with you."

"Peter..."

"If you say no," he threatened lightly, "I'll keep asking every minute of every day just so you know how serious I am about this. Unless... unless you ask me to stop because then I will. I don't want to make you uncomfortable."

Your eyes widened a little.

"I just want you to be happy," he said.

You smiled a little, looking down at the corsage in your hands. "Peter..."

"Go to homecoming with me, ___," he whispered, his hands cupping yours. He stepped closer, love-struck, pleading eyes searching yours. "Please."

You nodded. Barely. "My dress is going to be red," you said softly, "and my shoes are going to be black Converse. Your tie should be red and your shoes should match mine if we want cute pictures."

"What?" he asked.

"And my mom will want to get pictures on her phone, so you and May can come over to my house-"

"A-And you saying yes?" he asked. "Holy crap, ____, are you saying yes to being my date?"

"Don't screw it up, Peter Parker," you threatened. "I'm counting on you, okay? I need to believe that this is real."
