Twenty Five

Wait what? Ethan? I thought kasama niya family niya today? Well maybe nag mall sila or something pero what? I'm so confused but I wanted to check it out for myself. "Anong pinagsasabi mo, Pia? Imposible naman ata yun." sabi ko sa kanya pero alam ko sa sarili ko na na nagdududa ako.

"I saw him with a girl. Pero ayaw ko nang makita mo." sabi ni Pia sa akin. Baka naman Ate niya yun or something. So pinakita ko kay Pia yung picture ng Ate ni Ethan and she disagreed. "Muhkang nakikita ko yun sa school, Mau." sabi ni Pia and I'm really pissed. At the same time, sobrang curious din.

So marched back to the store and Pia couldn't stop me from doing so. She knows that when I get so pissed off, I turn into somebody else. Pumasok ako sa store and then, I did see Ethan. My senses were right, it is who I think it is and it's not his sister. It's Elaine.

Nagtago ako. I wasn't the one hanging out with someone I shouldn't be hanging out with but I'm the one who's hiding. Tahimik ko silang pinagmamasdan and I can see very clearly na Ethan's helping her choose an outfit. Mas matindi pa is may pag hawak pa sa bewang si Ethan. Of course, I know. Babae din ako. But never did Ethan help me pick something out like an outfit sa buong duration namin na magka sama. And why the f*ck would he hold her like that?

I figured that I should test him. So I decided to text him and ask him about his whereabouts.

Maureen: Hi Ethan, saan ka?

As expected, hindi siya magrereply agad kasi busy siya sa pagtulong kay Elaine. I'm still watching them from a distance and saw Ethan pull out his phone and looked worried. Is he going to lie to me?

Ethan: Hi! Nasa house ako today with Basti. Why?

I had to read his text for at least 5 times and nawala yung galit ko. It's been replaced with hurt. Nakuha niya pang mag sinungaling sa akin pero kitang kita sa mga mata ko na wala siya sa bahay at kasama niya si Elaine. I looked at him again and it seemed that he was unbothered with his own white lie.

Maureen: Wala lang. Just checking up on you.

I hit 'send' and my tears started falling from the corners of my eyes. I felt someone tap me on my shoulder. Lumingon ako at nakita ko si Pia. She wasn't talking, she was just looking at me. "Tara na, we should get home." She said and helped me stand up.

Naglalakad na kami ni Pia palayo sa store na yun, where I saw Ethan and Elaine together. I felt that this already happened in the past. I couldn't remember clearly pero I know Elaine's the girl with Ethan when I saw them at Starbucks.

Maybe there was a reason for everything. A reason why we love someone, a reason why we get hurt, a reason why I wasn't enough for him that made him look for someone else. But maybe there's also a reason why hindi namin ininom yung beer na binili namin kagabi. It's because I never thought I'd see my boyfriend hanging out with his ex today.

Pag dating ko sa bahay, umakyat ako agad sa kwarto ko at umiyak ng umiyak. I didn't know why Pia didn't follow me here but I really just want to cry and cry till I feel numb. I heard a knock and the door opened. It was Pia and she was carrying the bottles of beer and handed me one. Then she sat down beside me, patting my back.

"Would you like to tell me what happened?" tanong ni Pia and I whipped out my phone and showed her the texts. Halata din sa muhka niya na hindi siya makapaniwala sa nakita niya at nabasa niya from my phone. "Hindi ko masikmura paano nagagawa sayo ni Ethan 'yan. Mahal ka ba talaga niyan?" Pia asked. I sobbed more kasi that's one of the things in my mind right now. I mean oo, he lied. Maybe he was just helping Elaine kasi may pinag samahan naman sila but no, iba yung pakiramdam.
