𝔸𝕞𝕒𝕟𝕒𝕤 X ℙ.𝕆.𝕍:

Figures of coyotes with pitch black oil for skin oozed from out of the ground. Their skin bubbled and sparked dangerously as they circled me. Slowly, The shadows grew larger than me! Growing up to eight feet in height from the tip of their claws to the point of their ears. The faces of these animals were blank. A black canvas of slime. Their snouts separated into a mouth, Sharp fangs protruding from their foaming jaws. As their paws stepped over the once lush grass it cackled like fireworks. When they lifted their paws nothing was left besides an acid print, The grass no longer there- It has been melted away with whatever had made up their bodies.

The sheer smell of them makes my delicate nose sting. My head felt light, The fumes made me feel dizzy but I stood my ground against the very intimidating figures. Suddenly, Thick smoke rose from their putrid coats. It blurred my sharp vision, As I took a breath my lungs filled with the awful cloud of toxins. My throat constricted painfully as I heaved, Only gasping in more of the infected air.

The smoke seemed to have a mind of its own, Stinging my insides like claws and climbing through my airways, Seeping into my blood like a disease that had no cure. Trying to ignore the pain I looked back up at the figures. The smoke had cleared- Fading into the thick forest. The coyotes seemed to morph, Their snouts becoming broader. Their faces stretching to be wider and their ears shifting along with it, Pointed tips softening into round ones. I noticed their body shape also became bolder, Their legs and hips morphing into wider, Stronger legs.

They looked like wolves now.

The oil oozed off their coats down their legs, Puddling around their claws. I stumbled as my mind reeled with questions. As I stared up at the faces, The grime now removed to view thick coats- Some decorated with scars, Little bits of their ears torn.

I couldn't help but notice some familiar faces within the bunch. Unwanted, Buried faces.

As I was staring up at the figures towering over me I felt something touch my paws. Looking down I saw the puddle stretch and climb up my legs. I frantically backed away but the slime was carried with me, Clinging onto me like thistles. The dark grime started to sting, Giving me little shocks of pain as it crawled up my chest. I shook myself as if the ooze was water but it only spread faster, I tried to beat it with my claws, Smearing it all over. My coat felt thick and heavy.

I froze as a small pup pounded into my vision, Tussling with another pup. Small little yips and barks following them. A dark brown wolf bit at the others tail playfully. The slightly bigger one with pitch black fur and piercing yellow eyes yelped.

Barking at the one with mischievous topaz "Hey!" The smoke in my lungs was much more forgiving than the weight I felt now when looking down at these pups.

'So innocent...' A pure white wolf stepped into view, A soft look in her yellow eyes. I clenched my jaws together, I tried to look away but I found myself entranced with her presence. Her fur looked so soft and soothing as she trotted towards the two with amusement in her eyes. She lowered her head, Taking the brown one by the scruff. The pup let out a squeak of surprise while the other snickered, Licking its tail to sooth the fur. "Serves you right!"

The brown pup huffed, Sticker her tongue out at her brother. Her mother chuckled. A sound as sweet as a coo of a dove in the early morning. I wanted to sit and watch this forever, But smoke reappeared as the oil figures let out haunting howls and mocking barks, Circling around me. The bittersweet feeling in my stomach leaving. As the smoke cleared I blinked my blurry eyes rapidly, The smoke had made my eyes burn.
