"Daniel Reese Miller?" I asked, stunned.
Odette nodded. Wasabi started rolling around in my head, 'DAMN DANIEL!' she yelled out.
'Really? You just had to bring up that snap?' I asked, mentally face-palming.
Wasabi only scoffs, her canines showing before she cuts the link.
I sigh, my attention wavering. "Does he have a preferred nickname?" I asked.
Odette taps her chin, concentrating intensely. Her lips pucker in thought: "Reese. He prefers to be called Reese, but no one besides the beta and gamma families can call him that."
I frowned. "How about his parents? Family members? Aren't they around here somewhere?" Odette suddenly stiffened, her mouth clamped shut, and her eyes had a dark look in them.
I pressed the subject further, but she didn't budge.
"I'm sorry, I can't tell you that," she answers.
I urge her, "What do you mean you can't tell me?"
She opens her mouth but is interrupted.
"Because that's none of your concern," the deep voice said from behind me. It made my heart flutter, my wolf howled, tail wagging.
In a swift movement, I did an about-face, and my eyes traveled downwards to upwards. I appreciated his bulky but lean structure. He had an eight-pack, locked with a V-line underneath.
His body was covered with tattoos, leaking out a bad-boy vibe.
I think I just drooled.
Due to the shifting he had done earlier, he was wearing a pair of joggers, and he was not wearing a shirt, and I thanked the Moon Goddess for that.
He must have noticed that I was eye-raping him because he cleared his throat loudly. Embarrassed, I asked, "So... nice weather today, right?"
He cocked a brow, not amused.
I hung my head; this was so humiliating. Way to go with the first impression, along with when he just spoke to you. And the first words he said to me were to mind my business.
My chest clenched in pain.
Maybe he doesn't want me.
Wasabi whimpered at that, her legs giving out as she lay on the ground, curled into a ball.
Odette looked at him, causing him to briefly close his eyes before he motioned his hand towards me. Confused, I follow him as he starts to walk upstairs.
She wished me good luck, and I nodded, thanking her for the tour again. I was preparing for the worst because it explains why he would want to talk to me privately.
Following closely behind, we finally reached the top of the steps. He led me to his office, opening the door for me before he reached over and slammed the door shut.
I sit across his desk, patiently waiting for the rejection.
He sits across from me, folding his arms. The tension is thick in the air, and we don't say a word.
I couldn't take the tension anymore and blurted out, "Okay, if you're going to reject me, please make it as painless and quick as you can. However, I don't understand why you reject me because that only proves how cruel as the rumors say, and-"
He slams his hand onto the desk, causing me to jump.
And he says something that surprises me.
"I'm not going to reject you."
My jaw dropped, "Say what now?"
"I said... I'm not going to reject you," he repeated slowly this time.
"Well, duh. I heard that part; I'm not stupid. I'm just wondering why not," I sarcastically replied.
One of his eyes twitched, not liking how my smart-ass tone slipped between my lips. I adverted my eyes away when it turned to his wolf, but it soon disappeared.
I need to control my attitude, or else he will not want me as a mate.
"Because... my wolf and I will go crazy or become ill if I reject you. You're my other half, and we can't live without you. Besides, the pack needs a luna. If I reject you, who will take the position?"
Did he say what I thought he said?
Losing my temper, I jump out of my seat, "The fuck did you just say, mister? I know I'm hearing things like you only keep me for your benefit. Not because I'm your mate. And you know what? You just admitted that we were mates. Why didn't you say that in front of your warriors?" I demanded.
He was silent at that, realizing his mistake when he admitted I was his mate.
At least I know I wasn't delusional.
He casts his eyes closed before opening them again. His teeth clenched, almost as if he were in pain. "Yes, I'm doing this just for benefits. I've never wanted a mate, and you lack training to be a luna. Therefore, you'll enter pack training tomorrow morning. I'll be your trainer."
My heart drops.
"What-"
He didn't let me finish as he continued speaking.
"The ground rules between us is that no one can know we're mates. No affection, no-"
I pushed him.
Hard.
Pinning my mate against the wall, I looked at him with desperation. I stared at him, looking for anything that could give me a signal that there was a chance for us. But nothing. Daniel only stared at me with a blank expression. His eyes turned to the color of his wolf, pure black.
"How... dare you! Mates aren't supposed to treat each other this way!" I spat, tears finally pooling the edges of my eyes.
I knew I had broken my promise to my father, but I couldn't help it. Too much had happened these past few days, and I'll be damned if I kept all these emotions in at once.
If my push surprised him, he didn't show it. A growl escaped from him, but he didn't do anything back. Not evening bothering to put me in my place.
He only looked in the other direction before facing the window.
"You are dismissed. I'll see you tomorrow at training. Remember the rules," he crassly commented, his tone showing no emotion.
I turned around in a heartbeat, wrenching the door open with a bang and slamming it shut.
The tears clouded my version as I ran downstairs, trying to head outside.
'You were wrong, Wasabi. The rumors are what it seems to be,' I commented.
She didn't say anything.
But I was glad she didn't.
Because I wasn't sure if I could handle one of her comments right now.
