CHAPTER FORTY

Reese's POV:

It has been a few days since we had been found by Serena and her mate, Eugene. The warriors chased right behind him. Including Iris's other friends, Kace and Mela.

They helped me carry my unconscious mother and family.

I on the other hand carried Keegan, and a drained Iris.

Once we reached the pack house, my doctors took my little family and mate to the infirmary, treating them for their severe wounds. I quickly took off the ring that Odette controlled me with. With her being dead, she can't control me any longer. I was finally free from her grasp.

Now?

I was sitting besides my sleeping mate.

My heart thumping for the results.

Odette may have been eliminated, but the problem still stayed between me and Iris. The one where she found her naked on me, and her not believing me.

My hand was tucked into hers, the slightest touch causing small tingles.

I don't know what I did to deserve a mate like her. Even though I've hurt and pushed her away in the beginning, she still came barging through my walls like nothing.

She found me.

She saved me.

And saved everyone that I had tried to save for the past few years.

"I love you..." I whispered, squeezing her hand tighter.

Her sweet scent of lavender engulfed me, and made me dizzy with it. I couldn't describe how I felt for her, but I knew that I would spend the rest of my life to keep that beautiful smile she had on her face.

Then the strangest thing happened.

Iris's hold on my hand squeezed me back, and almost made me stood up from my chair to panic. I didn't think it was real.

Her pained groan made my wolf, Luka, perk his ears up, his attention now fully on his surroundings. Especially on our mate.

She parted her eyelids, revealing her gorgeous blue eyes.

"I love you too," she smirkingly said.

I released her hand, stumbling out of my seat in disbelief. We just confessed our love for one another. I could feel a tint pink covering my cheeks, "Y-You heard me?"

She nodded, a pained smile gracing her lips.

I quickly sat back down, my brows scrunching up in concern, "Are you okay? Do you need water? Should I call a nurse? I think I should, I mean-"

"Shh, I'm fine. Besides ... I think we need to talk about something. Odette is dead ... but that doesn't change the fact of what happened. I'm willing to listen, so can you please explain before I get your ass and beat it?" she growled out towards the end.

I let out a nervous bark, but stopped once I saw her pitch black eyes.

My face turned serious, my emotions hopefully conveying how I felt, "I swear to you, that I did not cheat on you. I had just finished showering, and when I came out wearing my boxers, Odette suddenly came in and launched herself onto me."

"Then why did I smell her arousal?!" she snarled, fangs flashing.

I could feel myself getting shy at this, "I think she could have used a dildo beforehand to cause her to smell like that. It honestly wasn't pleasant and smelled like a fish."

Iris's eyes fogged over, her wolf speaking to her.

A few minutes later, she sucked in a breath, "Okay, I believe you. My wolf, Wasabi told me. I'm sorry for lashing out like that."
